My likes has suddenly spiked upwards, then spiked downwards 5 days later.

Please see screenshot of my Facebook insights for the past month.

I had put up some new ads pointing to our fan page on February 9, however, we still had constant number of new likes those days. On February 14 and 15, I was surprised that our new likes have suddenly spiked upwards, but I did not do anything new to our ads. There was no virality whatsoever. The ads were up and approved already on February 10.

What could have happened here? Is there some rule such as a waiting period, until to build more credit with Facebook, until they go full blast with your ads?

Then suddenly, on February 21, we received a notice from Facebook that our credit card on file has been declined for some reason. But the Visa still works for other payments. So we had to change the Visa on file, and that's when the number of new likes began to spike downwards, and have been consistently down ever since.

Is there anything I am doing wrong here? Facebook is running weird.

From my experience, the performance of fb ads is very inconsistent. I've had, for example, an ad duplicated or run on several different accounts and received completely different results. One might add several thousand new fans per day, the other a few dozen. On top of this, an ad can achieve a few hundred new fans per day one week, and a few thousand the next for no apparent reason

Hopefully someone else will respond who has a more in-depth knowledge of why this variance exists. From my perspective, however, there is no rational reason for the spikes you've experienced, and the only advice I can give is when things are going well, don't touch anything! Don't even pause the ad or change your card details, simply let it run. I have tried contacting Facebook about this as it seems unfair, however I didn't receive a response

I wish I had a better answer for you!

February 14th is Valentine's Day. Is your ad relevant to dating or relationships?

Natino, thanks for your message. Seems like we are both in the same boat. I am curious on what other people have to say on this too.

Nope, the product has nothing to do with Valentines day.

I actually got that as well. Well at least the downword spike. One day I got a 5% drop in my like count over night. I dont buy likes so it wasnt that. It just seems strange that 5% of my followers would unlike me all at once. I still have not figured it out.

It looks like your likes were generated from mobile devices, Its really a hit or miss on FB, its the particular time of the day when you have your ads showing. I have done some FB ads and I can say that on certain times of the day it will be more and certain times it will be less.
