Google +1 is good for SEO purposes.
I still prefer to use Facebook for relationship building with my clients.

Beeing connected with others in google + will help you a lot.

If they put you in their circles then your site will be ranked first for them even if for global search you are not even in top 100.

I wish you a great year!

Google+ has an advantage Facebook will never have (unless Google wants them to have it): the power to influence search results.

That alone means that Google+ will always be more valuable to a marketer than Facebook.

Facebook isn't a marketing platform, it's a consumer engagement platform. People don't visit social media sites to shop or perform research, they visit them to socialize. It's like standing in a coffee shop pitching your product to people socializing with their friends... sure you might snag a few, but you'll never get as many as you would if you went to a tradeshow filled with people who went there for the express purpose of buying the type of product you're selling. Facebook is the coffee shop... Google is the tradeshow.

Google+ is Google's social platform, so obviously being an active part of the network together with your brand will give you a lot of perks SEO-wise.

Having said that however, I've noticed that the majority of profitable traffic driven from social media stems from Facebook and not from G+.
Doesn't mean it won't change someday though.

I disagree with this. The benefit of Google+ isn't in direct clicks, it's what you don't see. Google is using Google+ as a variable in the search algorithm, and while nobody knows "exactly" how much weight it carries, I think all of us pretty much predicted it would go that direction. Links that are +1'd and shared are having an impact on how they're positioned in organic searches. This follows along with Google's original logic based on backlinks (the more people link to something, the more important it is). That same concept is transitioning to social sharing (the more people share something, the more important it is).

Combine that with stuff only Google can do like Authorship which is Google's way of knowing you're the original source for content, as well as the increased search engine visibility, I guarantee you you are making WAY more money from a strong Google+ presence than an equally strong Facebook presence because of the hidden search engine benefits.

I prefer LinkedIn myself and find it to be way more professional where you can find and communicate with like minded people.

I think Google + will be more powerful then FaceBook real soon, for three reasons.
    1. With Google + Circles you have the ability to segment your target audience. That means when you send out status updates you can select which circles you want the content to go to. In the MarketingSherpa's 2012 email marketing benchmark survey respondents ranked segmentation as the second most effective tactic.
    2. Google + integration into Google's search results, when you do google + status updates and content that people have endorsed with the +1, that's now appearing in the organic search engine results on Google.com.
    3. Google + is integrated into Google.com family of essential marketing tools marketers would need like Gmail, Google Docs, Google Calendar, Google Drive, YouTube, Google Alerts, Picasa, Google Analytics just to name a few.
So when people begin to really understand the true power of Google + and how this social platform is built for the ultimate social sharing experience, they will leave FaceBook like a house on fire.

Well, the most obvious reason your business should join Google Plus is because it is owned by Google! This means you will have some perks in showing up on Google search results and lots of organic search engine traffic will be directed to your page. But Facebook is still good for SMO.
