Get traffic with Pinterest

I must admit, I am new to using pinterest, I'm a guy. I'm just looking around and it seems like a gold mine for getting traffic to a site. Does anyone have any ideas or information they can share about this? Or maybe point me in the right direction?

    Are you marketing to men or to women? I read awhile back that 75% of pinterest users are women.

    I just went over to Quantcast.com and got a screenshot of interests by pinterests traffic. I attached the file if you want to see it but it mainly bears out my premise with interests in baby things, toys, fashion cosmetics, bridal, jewelry, etc.

    You're right it could be a goldmine depending on what you want to sell.

    I may direct you to some path, first make sure your accounts has good number of boards and pins, so your account should be looking impressive and attractive
    Then join some group boards, most of the time instructions are given how to join them, if you are total newbie to all this, then i have free ebook to walk you through this

    Only thing I'm concerned with is it seems like pinterest is image driven. How do you get pictures to pin on there? Are there sites that provide web images to use for pinterest? Or do you have to take your own pictures to put on there? I have good articles from my website but no images, which is where I am stuck now.

      Try repinning something that is relevant to you and your pinboard. You have space to add a comment, so make one. When pins are repinned it lists the board of who does it so your board would be listed.

    @Xpesos: I downloaded your ebooks and I will try your methods.
    I have 1300 followers from dec. 2012. I use it to drive traffic to my site which is one month old now. Some small numbers are coming from Pinterest.

    I think I will have to increase my Pinterest activity even further. So far I have an average of 70 visits daily to my site according to Jetpack.
    Will see if these new methods will increase Pinterest traffic to my site.

    Pinterest looks good, I have more than 3000 followers with almost 30 boards including 15 or more group boards. My Pins do show in major results but still no traffic to the website. What could be the cause?

        I do not have many followers and do not use any bots. How ever I am a member of over 200+ group boards so no matter what I pin I can always show it to a larger audience. :p

        PS: I have scaled up to 12 websites using the same system and am up to just under 1000 amazon clicks per day (5%ish conversion). I wish I could share what exactly what I am doing but as in most cases, having to many people doing the same thing will raise the red flag and get it closed. This does not violate any websites TOS so is very whitehat. :rolleyes:

          Groups boards are a super awesome way of getting almost instant traction. It's almost insane. I've seen pins get up to 150 repins in just a few minutes after posting to a group board.

    Wow Danny! That is awesome. I know there is huge power in the group boards. I am in the process of making a tool that will allow me to setup one pin and send it to as many group boards as I want. To save time on pinning it to each group individually.

    I also have found some good success in repining images in my niche and changing the url to my site. Pinterest allows you to do this... but it seems to be in a bit of a gray area..

    Pinterest is my focus in 2013... it is a monster when it comes to driving traffic.

      Actually PInterest doesn't allow you to do this. It's a violation of their TOS. You may be able to "get away" with it right now. But I wouldn't be surprised if one day soon accounts that constantly redirect to the wrong url get the boot.

        I was not sure on that as I did not take the time to read the tos. I am modifying my Pinterest software to allow mass pining to multiple group boards. This way if you have one pin you want to post to 10 group boards you can do so automatically after setting it up once. My tools can be used for both good and bad... Lol... Depends on how you decide to use them.

        But one thing is for sure... I need to pay more attention to my group boards. I bet I joined 50 of them and never posted to any of them yet.

        Sure just check out my signature for the details. The Pinterest tool is out now but it does not have the bulk pin yet to group boards. I am actually coding that today. So hopefully that part will be added in soon.

    Here the recipe is simple, she posts pics on her blog then pin them, using the pinbutton, to her Pinterest account.
    Damn,it works well as she has more than 2K visits daily
    She monetizes it simply with an acne product banner from MaxBounty CPA network.
    It is a real simple way to do it with Pinterest...

      @fredp Good stuff - Congratulations! that is simple and nice way to get traffic from pinterest. I notice PR2 on the site too. Did you try the same technique on some other website? I notice one french website doing the same, just collecting images and then pinning them. I question how many backlinks you get this way? And are they strong value in Google eyes?

    I kinda new to it as well...
    But I can tell you the best thing is, is to be unique with your pins, don't be too spammy, use an slightly indirect approach with your pin content and be consistent with your pins daily.

    I have seen lots of people sharing Pinterest infographics on Facebook, and surely seems like a gold mine. Just make sure you`re posting interesting stuff, and traffic will come.

      Be careful not to rely to much on Pinterest. I have noticed that it closed down a few major group boards in the past few days. My impression is that they don't like Interent Marketers ans sooner or later your account will get disabled. You may get other opinions, but I am talking based on personal experience. Once you get too many followers / pin too much you are on their watch list. Sure the traffic is great but based on my own experience the quality is low (they are not buyers). Just take into consideration that if you verify your account and Pinterest disable your account - they will also block your website: you will not be able to pin links to your website. In addition your website will be marked as spam in Pinterest.

    If your audience is female, Pintrest can be a gold mine. Get nice pictures up there, and get them liked and re-pinned. The more you do this, the more traffic you will get.

    I haven't actually utilized pinterest that much for my sites. However, I opened up an account with it to see what all the buzz was about. I think it seems like a good idea, but I think the niches you can promote are very limited. I think fashion etc would work best with it but that's oversaturated on there by the looks of things.

      There are certain niches that get re-pinned more than others, but you don't want all of your boards and pins to be promotions because that looks spammy.

      It's wise to create boards on a variety of topics and even though some of them won't earn you any money, they will draw more followers to your Pinterest profile.

        There's no trick. Pin interesting things - originals, rather than repins - and eventually people will follow you. Follow people who pin things which interest you, some of the time they will follow you back. Or simply buy followers from some freelancer on sites like SEOClerks.

    Every Pinterest account should have an Infographics board and a Quotes board as part of the standard setup.

    Infographics and Quotes have a tendency to get shared a lot, drawing people back to your Pinterest account to see what other boards you have.

    Pinterest is one of the good social networking sites. I have been into it for yrs and it improved traffic to several e-commerce sites from where all I shared clothing, shoes pics etc. I'm following several ones as well as I too got back pinners back. The pins suggested by pinterest based on the categories we chosen earlier would give an opportunity to explore pins.
