Auto posting to Tumblr

good evening warriors,

Can anyone explain the pros and cons of automatically re-posting my blog posts to tumblr? Specifically, does posting duplicate content to tumblr hurt search engine ranking?

    Any duplicate contents will be considered spam at it might affect your search engine ranking. If you post blogs automatically, make sure that your blogs are not identical and has a variety of information so that google will not consider it as spam.

      Its called syndicated content, not duplicate. Done all the time. Try ifttt.com it will post to tumblr and up to 60 social and web 2.0 channels when you ad a new post to your blog. Will give backlinks and traffic.

      @mert You don't use Tumblr much do you?

      Tumblr is 99% images, that are reblogged. The ENTIRE SITE is duplicate content, and i assure you, there is no penalty.


      For the OP. I haven't tried auto posting of any kind, but I have heard that it is not a good idea and that Tumblr will find out.

      You can schedule though, so just get several days worth of content and schedule in advance and you are set.


      Sorry if that's not what you're looking for. but automated crap is what makes these sites come down so hard on people, and you get SO MUCH MORE benefit from just posting your stuff manual with proper tags and all that.

        Wally is right. Autoposting on tumblr has limited drawbacks, but limited upside as well. Doing a manual post, or having someone else do a simple manual post will allow you to add the correct tags and an SEO friendly post URL. You can make some changes to the content so it differs from the original post as well.

        When naming a tumblr, be sure to include good keywords in the url. I've had tumblr micro sites that get decent SEO traffic on their own.

    Auto posting to tumblr is not going to penalize your site. The next important thing is that you can use Social Network Auto Poster to publish your posts to tumblr automatically.
