Facebook Like button. Like the page or the site?

I am going to install a facebook like button on my Homepage (of a large forum). I already have like buttons at the bottom of each post but currently no like button for the Homepage of the forum.

I wondered is there a way that when they like the Homepage, the also become a fan of the fan page with the same click or do I need 2 seperate like buttons.

I ask because if I link the like button to the fanpage, I will gain more fans but the Homepage of the site will not be gaining social presence?
#button #facebook #page #site

You can use the Like Box social plugin from Facebook on your home page, and just make it a smaller one - leaving off the stream and faces etc. this way when they like, they will be liking your page

As long as the fan page is for the webpage/business I would just have them like the fanpage when they click like. That is how we did it on the front of our dealership's homepage.

But that way there is no SEO benefits to your homepage. By getting likes on your homepage, each like is giving a little SEO... I think

have them like your Fanpage, this way you can contact users via new posts on your Fanpage.

If they like your Webpage they will never see any FB posts

This is true. As far as I can tell, liking a website but not the page appears to do nothing. You want people who will receive your updates so the page is better.

I always like the page. Think of this, people on the page can like the page, but never the site. People on the site can like the page or the site. It only makes sense for you to consolidate all your likes when ever possible, hence have the site link like the Facebook page.
