How to get people to follow you on Twitter?

I'm managing a twitter account with 4,900 followers. I've read strategies such has following other people with large followings, using hashtags, making interesting, replying to people, etc. But is there a really clever trick to getting followers? What convinces people to follow other people?

You don't want to figure out how to do a quality you want to figure out how to get the wrong people not following. Google something about order validation for followers service. The idea is people need to validate that their real person before they can actually follow you. Because, 70% of twitter are software running and automating accounts.

However, twitter released its advertising platform to the United States user base where you can pay to have people follow you order promote your tweets to their selected categories it's a pretty cool way to do things I think I haven't personally used it yet though.

    Go Google it.

There really is no secret. Everything you mentioned is what works. Another thing you should do is involve yourself in conversations. Retweet people, reply to tweets, etc.

yes I agree there's really no secret at all. You just have to keep doing what you've got to do. And share relevant posts or links that your followers will benefit from.

    Hi
There are some fake followers also. we should be careful. For me few days back 46 people were following me, automatically within 2 days it became 42 followers. There are some tools for getting followers in twitter. making interesting updates makes more followers. And following reputated people also important.

A lot of the people that follow you then unfollow you after a couple days are using tools. They have their accounts setup to automatically unfollow anyone who didn't follow them back after "x" days.

Well, I've seen a lot of people unfollowing the twitter account lol. The strategy I have been doing is basically following people with thousands of followers and retweeting their postings. Question: What sort of tweets should I reply to? Should I expect a reply back? How should I reply to someone else's tweet in a way that it will make others follow me?

Start following people according to their interests.

If you play soccer, then type "plays soccer" into the search area to see a list of people. Click on their profiles and see if they are good matches for you and start following them. As a result, they are more likely to follow you back.

This is very true. I follow people in the sports niche for my company and they tend to follow me back. It also helps a lot to start conversations with them.

Don't forget to focus on people that are in your niche. You can probably have more people migrate to your site if you have things in common. Target your Twitter comments to those people.

    True, I agree

Now I have another question: If the Twitter account you are managing is for a social media network site or some community network site and it has a lot of tough competitors in its niche, how do you convince people to follow you? Example: I listen to this radio channel all the time and a few months ago, while staying at a hotel, I realized there was another radio channel that was in the same language. Even though this radio channel in the hotel was really good, I stayed loyal to the radio channel that I had been listening to originally. How do I convince people to follow me if they are already following my competitors? You can have 2 different websites/services and they can both be awesome but how do you convince people to go to a certain one? Contests? Giveaways?

I second all that's been said about getting more followers. Create quality content, refer to a specific niche, offer true value and the people will come over time (smm does not happen overnight).

      re: the competitors
My advice there is to follow closely what kind of content your competitors are sharing and how they manage their Twitter presence. Learn from them and "steal" their best moves.

Also, it is crucial you find the opinion leaders among your followers and then you delegate to them the effort of gaining you more followers.

You have to build a subset of "pro-followers" who understand the value of your content and are then willing to re-share it to their followers. You can't (and you don't need) to do all the job yourself.

      Hope it helps!

Well you're off to a good start with almost 5k followers so obviously you're doing something right. Aim for maximum exposure. The more retweets and favorites you get, the increased amount of individuals your tweet/account are coming in contact with. This naturally continues to grow if your tweets are generally liked.

Being personable with your followers by replying and acknowledging them is great for creating loyalty, but doesn't necessarily increase your follower count. It really depends on the type of account you have. If it's your personal one, talk about anything that's trending or a hot topic while including a few hashtags.

Some of the best stuff is mentioned here already. There is no shortcut. If you want to inflate your numbers for appearances then just buy them, but Twitter is cracking down on that practice and they probably won't last forever.

Be yourself. Be interesting. Be someone you would follow.

If you have a business account it is best if you create a traffic using your twitter. I guess most of the methods and advice are already given however you should also try making a facebook account and fan page for your small business and invite them to follow you on twitter.

    hey,

I would like to know your interest why you want a lot of followers. Is this because you want it for yourself or is this because of a business you want to start? Did you know that twitter is also a best way to increase your market? You can advertise your product and you can also give your product reviews.

It's not the quantity you should focus on. It's the type of people that will follow you. Your Twitter value won't increase if you have thousands of like from people who are not active in Twitter and doesn't contribute to your Twitter image. You should concentrate on getting important people with same interest with you and those who are active and provide useful info that relates to your niche.

I guess there are no other tricks. All you have stated are the usual ways on how to get people follow you on twitter. To add also, you can ask some of your friends if you have Facebook, Plurk, Instagram and Tumblr to follow you. Go take a pic with yourself holding a pen and paper with your username and post it on there. Write a caption saying. Hi! Hello! Follow @yourusername on twitter! Just like that. Hope that works!~
