Google owns the #1 and #2 search engines, Google Search and Youtube. so, why not use Google+ as the main social media to engage with you customers/clients/community, its bound to increase your sites visibility and create more traffic more than other social sites.

Of course, the other sites are important, twitter probably being the second best in my opinion, because its sim ply the most accessible of all the social sites and easier to manage compared to facebook or pinterest and so on.

Because everyone uses Facebook so you can reach more people, plus it`s more user friendly than G+ .
And i feel that G+ is more business orientated.

G+ is a relatively new service compared to twitter and facebook. But when people actively search for a service or product they are more likely to use google to do so rather than twitter or facebook.

When I use twitter or facebook personally, I am looking at pictures of my friends and family and reading fun updates, I am not really in a 'customer' mind frame when I am on them.

I'd use facebook to build a community around my brand if I had one rather than sell and place ads on it.

I am not certain Google + will survive. Its Google second attempt as social media and I just don't see enough value in it to move people away from Facebook. Tumblr is even out pacing Google + right now. We will keep our toes in water but we are not throwing our resources at it.

One thing I dislike about both FB and Google is that they want to have us all butt naked online and everything connected to everything...I have no interest in that...limits you in my opinion. Also recently there was one hack in FB and people were not able to log in other places

You are correct and even though there is not a lot of engagement on Google+ compared to some of the other social networks, if you make YouTube videos, sharing them via Google+ works great for getting you higher in search results. The new videos I shared straight to my personal and business Google+ page shot to the top of the search results. Give it a try if you have not already!

FB has the lead of course.

Twitter is just nonsense to me.... I can get 50 quick clicks but that is all they are..clicks.

The ace card for Google is Hangouts and Hangouts on air. This will be the making of G+ over time IMO.

Personally, I look back with an ever-growing nostalgia to pre-social network days. I actually dislike them all.

And you just summed up why G+ will never take over from Facebook. People don't want it to feel like business. That isn't why they are on Social Media.

Personally I wouldn't waste time on G+ minus the basics and really only those for SEO reasons.

Loads of people have G+ since google kind of forces you to. But very very few use it as a social network and I suspect many of those who do think of it as a business.

I want to be where my customers are not where my competition hangs out.

I would agree with most of what you say.. I wonder comparatively how much of facebook is actually real?

let me clarify a few points and I welcome your opinion because you love corvettes as I do so you have good taste

I wonder how much %% wise are facebooks accounts actually real as opposed to spam and accounts created for seo purposes. I myself have over 100 facebook accounts.. and I am a dabbler.

also accounts created by underage but lie to get access.

I wonder what %% Facebook users that are out of the U.S.

I would speculate that Social media in general like facebook puts people ina different state of mind so sales conversions are alot more difficult compared to people searching for google for something

this has been from my business associates that have been trying to crack the facebook as a normal marketer

        NOT someone selling facebook software

yes.. I know there are people making tons and tons of money on facebook.

my point is that Google plus is growing and even though they may never be a large as facebook I think google plus have an average better quality of prospect.

I tend to disagree with most postings here. I've used google+ to find groups that are related to my narrow niche and have been quite pleased with the results.

There are groups with good topic-focused content that I regularly visit and like others have mentioned, when I add my blog posts they seem to go right to the top of the search results.

Eddie I honestly think 25% to 50% of Facebook's monthly active accounts are "fake" secondary accounts of soem kind. Though I think the majority are not for marketing but for games and such. I'm not sure I know anyone who has not at some point used 2 or more accounts in a month. I did it in the past but don't anymore as I use my personal account to run any pages I need to.

My problem with G+ is that by it's nature it is more of a lie than Facebook. It weeds out fakes better but the problem is the average G+ user isn't using G+. They are using Google in some way but being counted due to how Google shows active users.

G+ is a relative wasteland but of course it is a wasteland in the same sense Dubai is. So there are still loads of people there. Just not the number Google says and not anywhere near the numbers that Facebook has.

As for the idea that G+ will be better for conversions. I see it to a point. Especially in certain niches. I would expect the Make Money niche to be strong given all the marketers there. Same as how that niche sells here.

So for many people G+ makes sense. G+ is many ways does seem to be (based on second hand knowledge) more of a pure marketing place vs. a social marketing place. So I would expect higher conversions.

But Facebook is the bigger pond with more fish. For that reason I see G+ as more of a place to promote high performing offers. But if they perform well and you get potential customers in your circles isn't it likely they also like your Facebook page? So how many extra sales will you get if your G+ list is smaller (which it should be) and there is significant overlap?

And in the long run I personally don't see G+ growing. Hell the only reason they really need G+ is for the social data that Facebook blocks them from having. But sooner or later Facebook is going to need the cash and when that happens and Google gets the data they will stop pimping G+ and IMO within 3 years following that date G+ will be gone or at least put into limbo.

G+ isn't a good social network because it wasn't designed to be a good social network. It was designed to capture the social data. But Google didn't understand that the network and the users came first before you get the data.

As for hangouts I have not personally used them (I know seriously how can that be true right?) but from what I have seen they are amazing. But if Facebook were to make a similar product (we all know they have to be working on it) the user base difference will make the Facebook version win (unless it sucks, I don't have faith it won't suck).

G+ can't win simply because G+ wasn't designed to win. It was (poorly) designed to capture social data IMO. And I think perhaps to scare Facebook into doing what Google wants and that is link up Facebook to Google accounts and share the data. Just think how amazing Google could make search (their bread and butter thanks to adwords) with that kind of personalized data. And in the end much of what Google does (android anyone?) is to keep their dominance in search.

Google's moves must always be viewed through the veil of search. They beta a lot of products and can a lot of them when they can get away with it once they can't be made to help search. For example here are currently active products that are free (free means more users) and how they relate to search.

Gmail: I'm sure you have noticed the ads seem to tie in a little too well to the emails. All that email data is massive. Plus they get not only info on gmail users but anyone who sends to gmail users. Personally I love gmail but accept that there is no real privacy there.

Docs: Look at gmail and what I said.

Calendar: Holy crap more personal data

Android: We couldn't trust Apple to keep google search so let's try to undercut them by giving our iOS Clone away free. Oh yeah more personal data. Mobile rocks and we totally don't warn when programs want access to you personal files. Who do you think we are? Apple?

Youtube: Number 2 search in the world. Video compared to total time spent on the net was increasing when they bought it. So yeah data again.

And this keeps going on and on. And when the product doesn't work to help search they kill it. Google Reader anyone?

And damn that turned into a long and kind of rambling post lol

Google+ is very low on foot traffic on the moment. As previously mentioned though, it is going to be very helpful as far as getting rankings and being seen in the SERPS as an authority in your niche. Use it as a central hub to link out to all your material on other sites. Then if/when it does become more viable you're already there.

I don't enjoy Google+ as a user, but if you were to spend a lot of time building a big network in a niche, it would help your searchability (to those that you have connected to.)

For example, if I had a parenting e-Book and I connected to a giant network of mom bloggers, when those bloggers search Google for parenting books, there's a good chance that my book would come up first as I'm in their network.

As far as I can see, Google+'s biggest asset is that it affects search results (as long as personalized results are on, which they are by default.) Google Hangouts is already being done better by other sites that concentrate only on that without trying to also be Facebook at the same time.

if Google owns G+, then surely they will one day make it a requirement to rank your sites and youtube videos. If you use android, Chrome, Youtube and Google search engine, then start learning how to use G+ too because I have a funny feeling in me that in the near future, they will force G+ on all google users

I'm sure Yahoo and especially Microsoft would love this. A few calls to the DOJ, Sergey Brin and Larry Page are standing before a congressional hearing.

I don't think Microsoft will forget nor forgive that having to combat the DOJ was exactly the diversion Google needed to fly in under the radar and start snatching business away from Microsoft.
