Linkedin 30k connections - 30m Second Level Connections

Is anyone here using Linkedin to generate affiliate Sales? I have just helped to launch a clickbank product for a seriously connected Linkedin Expert (30,000 first level connections and 30,000,000 2nd Level connections) - We have managed to get our first 5 sales this weekend for his Linkedin Training Program, which teaches linkedin Members how to use Special Weapons And Tactics to optimise their profiles and massively increase their connections and hence influence etc.. however due to Linkedin spam rules I don't believe he is able to email his own list of some 30,000 connections plus approx 20,000 who have tried to connect with him, as they are not opted in as such.

So my first question is: Is his list useless or is there some way to approach this list over time in order to get them opted in?

Next, I wanted to quickly share my thoughts on the Linkedin opportunity and ask whether anyone here has looked at this seriously..?

As I understand it, there are hundreds of thousands of open networkers on linkedin who are inviting connections with a promise not to IDK (refuse connections on an "I Don't Know" them Basis) purely it seems to swell their contacts. Whether many are doing this in the hope they will receive more business leads or because they understand the way the Linkedin algorithm(?) works, is debateable... but here is my take on it.

When you are looking for someone to provide a service for you on Linkedin, you will naturally see your first level direct connections first and probably listed in order of proximity - If however you have nobody in your first level contacts who provides such a service, you will then see a good volume of second level connections (who you could ask a first level connection to introduce you to .. or invite to connect with, saying that you would be interested in engaging their services).

So as an example, Let's say you are a "Real Estate Agent" with 30,000 connections and each of these connections has an average of 1000 connections each themselves, then you are naturally then connected to 30,000,000 second level connections. So, when one of these 30million 2nd level connections searches for a "Real Estate Agent" on Linkedin (where they have no First Level Connection who is a real estate agent... hence the reason why they are searching for one...) then as the 2nd Level Connection who is a "Real Estate Agent" you will appear high in up in their results. This obviously applies at lower level connections but the point is that by having this number of connections an "blanket"coverage you are now potentially going to appear very high in the Rankings for "Real Estate Agent" to an audience of 30,000,000 Linkedin users.

It gets a little more difficult to prove out this theory when looking at third level connections, and at any level there are also other factors which come into play, such as location and relevance (optimising your profile) and how somebody searches for you on linkedin, but the theory is I believe sound in principle.

Not too many posts on the social media forum about linkedin, so am just curious to see what thoughts and feedback you might have on this?
