Twitter vs. Facebook vs. everything else

I'm starting a social media campaign, but not sure where to begin and put my focus. Twitter, Facebook, Pinterest, forums, Tumblr... the list can go on forever. What gets you the most ROI? What are some good resources? After searching the forum, I couldn't find anything that addressed this.

For better campaigning you should try Facebook and Twitter, Both sites have massive traffic to promote business and can get many visitors throughout the campaign.

    What is your campaign for?

Each site works better depending on what your trying to market.

      ^This.

What are you trying to market, and to who? Once we know this, then we take the proper plan of action.

I agree with some that is going for twitter and facebook. However you should also consider instagram. It is now one of the most popular social media nowadays. Promoting and marketing works if you have a lot of marketing strategies, so for me, you can try all social medias and take advantage from it since they do not require payment.

    Gents,

I'm looking to get more visibility for Ultimate Niche Finder. I worked on it a little today, offering a 50% discount off UNF to anyone who follows me on Twitter or like on FB. I do not want to spend too much money. And these seem like pretty good ways to go. How could I do this on Instagram?

You're already too broad... You have a speak to a SPECIFIC PERSON (or group of people), not just anybody who would buy it. You have to define who you're targeting much more narrow or you'll never make it.

As others have already mentioned, you need to know your market. Find out where THEY hang out and then use that platform to connect with them.

I suggest you can try several main social media platforms, facebook, twitter, linkedin, etc. After a period of operating, you will easily identify which one fits your product best and focus on about two platforms.

I don't use Facebook and Twitter for it. Facebook can unpublish your page anytime and you can loose your traffic. Therefore I will suggest you to focus on Reddit and StumbleUpon. Both of these social networks brings tons of traffic.
I am using only these two networks.

It depends on your market or niche. Usually it's Twitter and Facebook but you can post videos on Youtube, images on instagram or maybe pinterest.

  • Hi,

It actually depends on what you are planning to market. If it has to many images then Pinterest is a very good site to promote and get good trsffic.

As many have stated, having an online presence all over the internet is beneficial. If someone Google your brand name, and they find tons of content, and click through to their favorite social media, you have a higher chance of connecting with more people. You want to make your business look important! If you think it will help, just a slight bit, use it!

I would recommend focusing on the main ones like Twitter, Facebook, Pinterest, YouTube, etc. IMHO Facebook and Twitter are pretty much staples to grow your network. Establishing your Facebook fanpage is a good start.

I find Pinterest the most enjoyable and if you have great images that have the potential to go viral then its golden.

You may want to register an Onlywire account and make use of that to update your pages and for Wordpress, Tumblr, etc. if you venture down those roads. Social Signals are great for SEO and Onlywire makes updating your networks easy.

Just my 2 cents for what its worth. All the best with your social media endeavors.

Thanks derricks4, good advice. Speak to a specific person... such as an architype??? Or is that still too broad. Anyway, excellent advice. I'd rather fight a battle than a war right now.

Freelancing10, so do you think content marketing is more important than a social presence? And do you mean content marketing for brand rather than for SEO?

@ itservicebiz, OnlyWire looked cool, but I think the others have a good point in that I have to be market to a SPECIFIC type of person with QUALITY content.

    Hello Mr. Hango
You should use Facebook & Twitter as they generate a massive traffic to a business website. Create a Facebook Fan Page & Twitter profile relevant to your niche start promoting them accordingly. Apart from these two Stumbleupon is the website you should try believe me it generates a huge amount of traffic to your website.

I have all of those social media accounts above but in terms of professionalism and generating leads, LinkedIn is my choice. It's creates a win win community where professionals can share and post business related issues. That's why I like linkedIn since you get to engage with your possible prospect and really displays a sense of credibility.

Ok, lets take a different approach to this one....

Who is your target market? What are you promoting?

No one on these forums can tell you what is best for you without understand who you are trying to connect with. Figure out who you are trying to connect with, what is their age, gender, income levels, are they urban, suburban, rural, etc?

The answer to your 'what social media should I focus on?' can only be answered by understanding your target market!

Like some have mentioned here, where you market depends on who your costumer is. Social media marketing is still marketing.

You really do need to have a bit of plan and strategy to be successful. It doesn't have to take you a long time to do this planning, either. And you'll likely get a lot more success in the longer run if you've written down your general direction, etc.

    Think about:
    - what are your goals? (likely get sales!)
    - what are your objectives? (how many sales, by when; how many social followers, by when, etc.)
    - who is your target market (who's going to be interested in your stuff? What's their lifestyle? What social sites are they generally on? What kind of content do they like (this will help you form your content plan/ ideas)?

Based on this, you can narrow down where you want to be. Facebook and Twitter are the common places to be. But if you've got a young market - you may have more success on Tumblr, for example.

When you've got that figured out, then you need to develop a content plan, sort out your budget for ads and other marketing tools, and start connecting. (you don't need to have your content plan all neat and set in stone to start - it's likely going to change going forward as you test and analyze what works and what doesn't - but start with some ideas for what you're going to post about, how often etc. etc; and you need to know a budget, or it will likely soon be blown!)

    Good luck! And have fun!

Whatever social media you go with, you should focus on list building and then cultivating the list. Sending paid traffic to a landing page and converting them to a lead is much more cost effective than straight shooting them to your offer. Most people need to be exposed to your offer 5-7 times, even if they are interested, before they whip out the CC.

Create a free offer or sample of your product that delivers value and is highly targeted for your audience. Offer it on a lead page and require at least email optin. Use a basic email auto-responder system like Get Response or Aweber. Build a list!

If you have well targeted landing pages that convert and a good offer, then finding clever ways to get traffic to them is much easier.

    Best of luck!

I recommend you Google "Sales Funnel" and look at some of the graphics. It's a good visual reference of how your basic marketing approach should work.

Facebook and Twitter have become huge parts of marketing for me. I still SEO, article marketing, etc. But as free ways to drive traffic to my sites, it is unbeatable the amount of people that are already there. All I have to tap into my target market and start interacting with them. The best part about those 2 social medias is that you are able to interact with others that share your same interests. They want to talk about the same thing you want to talk about. It makes for a better way to create that relationship. When people feel comfortable with you, they are more likely to want to be on your list. Then always remember, the money is in the follow ups. So, stay connected with your list and interact. Then just repeat the same process every day.

Facebook and Twitter definitely get the most traffic. They can be integrated so they both get the same updates at the same time as well. There's different types of software for each and ways to make them work together, but you can do both with the same amount of work since they've cross platformed with each other now.

I would give preference to facebook on twitter. tweets on twitter keep changing in every second so it is very difficult to let the people know about your tweets or products, second you cant share the video or content more than 160 characters. The best way to use the twitter is increase the followers and send them a personal massage lets suppose if you send the direct message to 150 people which just takes 20 mints you could get the 40 visitors, its my personal experience. But on the other hand on Facebook you can share the video, links, content, pic etc and can join the groups to generate more traffic as compare to twitter.

The social media is the one that you use to its full potential relative to your niche. All Social media have their own pros and cons, but all of them are great. Facebook gives you a lot of opportunities but you must pay to play.
Twitter gives you maximum reach but your tweet must be of limited characters.
Everything else has their own traits that can be optimized or that my limit to.

It all depends upon you and your niche buddy.
