What is the difference between FB account and FB page/fan page?

That depends very much on what you mean by "make money using FB", actually. Facebook is a social network, which means that most of the users there aren't looking for commercial opportunities (buying or selling stuff or services, etc). For that reason, I wouldn't recommend you use your personal account to try and push any sort of business--you could very well end up pissing people off!

What social media IS good at is helping you to relate with your customers, if you happen to already have a solid business model in place. Let's say you have a decently popular online store and you want to promote the deal of the week, or receive feedback from your customers--platforms like Facebook or Twitter are good for helping you do that. On top of that, social media is also a good way to add a human element to your business model, sharing stuff you find interesting/cute/relevant to your business.

There's also the promotional element of Facebook, of course, but I find that the much more boring aspect. Spend a little time to talk to people individually and get them interested and invested in your product, and I promise you that word of mouth will be incalculable. Better yet--build a kickass business that people can't stop talking about!

basically the normal Facebook account is for personal use where you limit the audience to your immediate friends and family members but as for Facebook FanPage, it is the best option used to generate money and place your ad. You can't really generate money with normal FB account if you dont have huge number of audience. Hope this helps

The way I see it, you have one account. That account is made up of both your personal page (where you can have a maximum of 5000 friends) and the other part of your account is your fan page where you can have unlimited numbers of people who like it.

Obviously, not everyone has a fan page because not everyone is in business and not everyone is attempting to influence a large number of people so most people only have a link to their friends, family and colleagues.
