I have learnt a lot about Google + but I always find it confusing. Can you please suggest me some active blogging communities which I can join and get more readership for my content. Thanks!!!

  The best way is type google+forum
  Yes google+ is a nice and friendly social media and less strict than Facebook.
  You can also look on Linkedin groups or ask your twitter (if you got) followers if they know one of them.

I suggest that you try to connect first with the people you know. You may wanna scan your contact list and see who is on Google+ the rest will come automatically.

PDev88's suggestion really is best. Using that method, Google will also suggest communities to you, as well. It's very simple and easy to use.
