Well Kevin, LinkedIn is quite different from twitter and facebook, though they say its FB for professionals. At LI you have to plan your promotional strategy with a thought behind. Unlike, FB & TTR for me success at LI is totally how close you are to your niche in terms of building new connections or relations...

Like FB you just can't invite a finance professional to give his/her opinion on something that is related to perhaps movies or art.

Second, but equally important thing, is to engage people, (your friends and/or followers) at FB & TTR to your LI profile. Just try to take some help from the success of those two networks that you already have achieved...

    Best of luck

    Hi Channels

Thank you for the advice, I'm definitely gonna give LinkedIn another and see if I get on any better this time.

I have plenty of connections it's just getting them to engage with me that's the real problem!

If you want to increase connections then you should share your free email which connects to your LI profile.
Check my signature for a good Software to automate many tasks and being able to find emails according to niches. You might get good use of it. (It was made for a client which had many invitations to talk in many conventions. Worked very well.)

Twitter has always been effective and Facebook less, LinkedIn lesser.

However, it all boils down to your approach.

A user is in a different mindset on LinkedIn than any other social network. LinkedIn is "all about me" - the only reason a user is there is to further their own career agenda, period.

Understanding the mindset will help you frame your offer appropriately for that audience. The exact same "marketing products" I have crazy success with on Facebook and Twitter completely bomb on LinkedIn ... but when I change the marketing message to a little less "squeeze page" and a little more snob factor the results improved.

There's no secret recipe, just an understanding of behavior. Social media isn't a marketing platform, its a consumer engagement platform. Build trust post engaging content to increase visibility and then when you do post a marketing message it it has a greater likelihood of being seen and interacted with due to the trust your brand established.

The fact is that twitter, facebook and Linkedin are far different to each other, all three works differently.
I may be finding it easy to work with facebook cause I have used it from the day one, and I've seen my fellows getting good success with linkedIn, so it's all about how you operate them.

Try to create an impression of yourself for your connections. Create a reputation of a person who provides quality content, even if that content is just shared. Then you will build a foundation of trust that can be used for other initiatives.

    Good Luck!

I've found LinkedIn to be pretty useful for attracting clients. It works particularly well for freelancing, and you can find lots of clients on it. For the sole purpose of getting people back to your website, it can be hard. People will often disregard you if you don't offer any value and just post about your website all the time. Try joining groups related to your site, and get to know people in there and help people out.
