Important Question: Fanpage Posts in News Feed

Hey guys,

does anyone know whether the fanpage post displayed in the news feed of a fan, is counted as viewed by default (just based on the fact that it was displayed on their news feed), or that it is only counted as "viewed" if the fan actually clicks on the post's title?

In other words: when you are an admin of a fanpage and you make a new post. You will see below your post at the status: "xxx people saw this post", where xxx represents the number of people....

Is that number counted based on fans who CLICKED on your post's title, or simply by the default fact that the post was displayed in their news feed?

  • Mystery,

By “viewed” do you mean impressions or reach? Reach refers to the number of people that saw a post and (while it doesn’t specifically say this on facebook’s website) I take this to mean someone was logged into their account and hat their newsfeed open. Impressions is the number of times a post was displayed (whether in a followers newsfeed or the friend of a follower if the follower shared the post).

So the impressions and reach can happen even if someone didn’t click on a post however it doesn’t actually mean the post was viewed. Obviously you can never truly know that. A person could have their account logged in at home all day without being there.

    Hope that answers your question,

    Shawn

That's what I'm trying to get at.

I was referring to the Total Reach.

As per facebook (if you click on the question mark next to it), it says it means: 'The number of people who saw your page post.".. so yeah, they do state that on their website.

I gather that, by comparison to regular websites traffic, Total Impression = Number of Hits or Total Traffic.... while Total Reach = Unique Visitors.

The problem is as you stated. It doesn't guarantee that someone "actually" read your post.

This emphasizes more the importance of post timings. Since most people check their facebook accs when they wake up in the morning, it makes more sense that the posts at the very top during that time would get the most attention or probability of being read.

If you look into help, you'll see that Facebook is, when talking about reach, always mentioning 'people who saw any content about your Page'

Also, that numbers are often way higher than the number of actual page, so the only logical conclusion is that they are talking about total number of people who saw your content anywhere on Facebook and not just number of people who actually visited your page.

Sure this isn't accurate, but it's good to know how many FB people had your content displayed on their wall.

New insights are showing you all of the statistics, including those how many people actually clicked your post.

    You are right.
My experience is that morning and evenings are the best time to post as it is seen by more people.

Early in the morning when they get up and in the evening right before they sleep. I honestly can't sleep without checking all of my accounts first. I've noticed same goes for the people here at home.
