Hi! Yo! I need your opinion on something. I'll only ask it once, so listen up

"What is your biggest frustration with social media marketing?"

Your opinion will be etched on the walls with the unspoken elite.

MY BAD. I need to give my opinion.

My biggest frustration is that there are too many distractions that can pull away your focus from the customers you need to focus on.

I think Google Plus is far better than Facebook. But that's just my opinion and my experience with this social media marketing thing. Not all niches will work with these platforms.

Me too. I found that almost people just talk about FB, and then they complain that FB is too big so they lost in it, of course it is a general social site, so you can't focus on your targeted customers. That's a reason why niche social site is growing quickly.

My biggest frustration would be other people trying to sell products to me, I just don't reply when they do.

Selling products 99% of the time is exactly what I propose people NOT do on Twitter/FB/etc..

(Miscommunication here on my part, too.) When I made this post, I was actually thinking about this from the perspective of the person who's DOING the social media marketing.

Sorry for the miscommunication, but it's nice to here your thoughts from the other end of this!

Lol you need something from people and start with saying "Ill only ask it once, so listen up" .. thats a good way to get people to take the time to give you information.

My biggest frustration is reaching out to potential customers without paying for ads. Social media is great for free marketing, but it can be really hard to attract members without putting money into your promotion campaign.

@brutecky: Sorry if I came off as an asshole! ;.; I miscommunicated the fun, joking vibe I was aiming for!

@WSDixon: Yeah! "Wanna-bes" are exactly who I aim to avoid with ANY product... not just social media... So I feel we can relate right there.

If you'd be curious for another idea for where to begin from some random dude on the Internet (this'll be a super surface level answer), I was talking with this guy who just dropped over $5K on some Facebook ads. He tells me that he "pulled" 1,000 followers from this little stunt. So, with this in mind, maybe something you could do would be to just drop $100 x 5 different possible Facebook ads that you SUSPECT would be "winners," and then blow it up to that $5K level when you feel more certain of your choices.

Whether you get actual results or not on your first $500 drop, I suspect it'll at least remove some of the freaky uncertainty or "vagueness" of social media marketing.

@pinkgorilla Thanks for this thought! Yeah it can be tough to gather a following, I think. If you happen to be a fan of Marketer Seth Godin, I've read recently what HIS take on viral marketing was. He says this:

"The best approach is to not try to write things that will go viral.

No, the best approach is to write for just one person. Make an impact on just one person. Even better, make it so they can't sleep that night unless they choose to make a difference for just one other person by sharing your message with them.

The rest will take care of itself." (from How to write copy that goes viral)

I feel that Seth Godin can help you more than I can (at the moment), so I'm really excited should this help you even 3% of the way with this frustration.

Thanks again for all of your input! I'm really valuing this right now, and you're probably speaking for THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE when voicing your thoughts here.

Thanks and Massive Blessings To You,

    Aaron

The money grabbing, censorship, and unfairness of it all.

    For example:

I once got kicked off a what was the top social media site at that time for being too opinionated. I had decided to pick apart the BS in the sponsored article of a large corporation with my opinion, and then backed myself up with all sorts of facts, it got tens of thousands of thumbs up, so they responded by deleting my account with the comment. Now even if someone else submits my website to this one, I will not get any visitors. Their followers will not even know about the submission.

This is quite unfortunately common, many social media sites will not give you a fair chance, and most of them have been bought out by large corporations these days. I would not have realized this myself if it wasn't so obvious the way they used to do this back in the day, nowadays it is much more subtle.

    Money > Freedom of Speech

Paid Ad-copy > High Quality Content

Big Corporations often crush Start ups.

This is an interesting read, as are the links the article contains.

I kick myself to why I didn't get on the bandwagon early! Currently on the new social networking website Directly.me - finally making some good money again -_- before this I was the king of Pinterest but those losers are banning everyone these days.

Never understood Instagram/Pinterest until you pointed this out!

Have you tried marketing on one of these niche sites?

Holy shit! Aaron's my name! ;.; Very informative... Thanks!

i'm curious. Would your ideal outcome be, then: To set regulations against people f****** with your s***? In other words, would you like it if 1) there were some kind of global policy preventing (high-like?) submissions or 2) to have some letter written to the site owner informing them that the moderators have behaved like assholes... thus making sure that deleting such a major post never gets deleted, no matter how controversial it may seem?

Thanks for mentioning Directly! It's like Information Product Fiverr. Quick question: What's your biggest frustration with using Directly?

Also, would your ideal outcome be to have an account with your previous numbers of repins and likes... that will never get banned?

Thanks everyone for putting in your thoughts!

Users should be able to vote things up and down. There should be no top down control of freedom of speech.
