How to overcome fear of making YouYube videos?

I know YouTube is a great way to get lots of traffic, but I have always been using other peoples' videos. Everyday, I tell myself that I will make a video of me showing my face and talking, but I am nervous and scared. Give me some ideas to overcome my fear besides "just do it"

You can also find some really good gigs on Fiver.Com where someone will speak your script for you. And at $5 it won't break the bank!

When I create my first ever video recording my face and voice, I am not really frightened or scared, but a bit nervous. But I stay calm and just act like normal in recording a video.

I understand this can be hard as it was for me the first time I began YouTube,

I understand you want advice other than 'just do it' but there's a reason everybody is giving you this advice, because there right.

You really have to ask yourself what is it that your so scared of? People not liking the video? Your friends finding it and laughing at you?

At the end of the day it all comes down to confidence, so my advice is to watch a YouTube video on confidence building techniques and then apply them to your efforts, if you want any other advice from a YouTube veteran just give me a personal message, I'm happy to talk :-)

Start with voice overs. Once you become confidant with adding your voice to a video then think about putting your face in front of the camera.

Don't get too hung up on it.
I've been making consistent monthly Adsense income from YouTube since they began and my early efforts are some of the biggest earners. These early efforts are probably my worst in terms of sound and picture quality.

That said if you have a smartphone that records video then practice making a few short videos of you talking - it helps if you imagine you are talking directly to a friend. Give value in your speech. Generally I am not concerned with the sound or look of someone as long as I get value from what they are saying.

Alternatively, if you don't want to show yourself on camera then why not create text slides in PowerPoint or Open Office and just do a voice over.

    Thanks for these awesome tips!

I tend to like watching the videos on YouTube with face and voice. It isn't just videos that I'm afraid of making... I dropped out of college due to fear of presentations.

Collect some good quality pictures on the topic you want to make the video. Go to, animoto.com and enter those pictures. It will automatically create a video for you which you can submit into youtube. Start posting, you will overcome the fear.

A powerpoint video is the best way to go initially due to your fear. You can start the video by introducing yourself verbally with a picture of you as the first slide. Then you could use a plain white background with about 3-4 lines of text max. per slide to talk about your product or service. This allows the viewer to see who is talking to them without actually having you live in front of the camera. You can use a screen recording software like camtasia studio software‎ (free online) or just google "free screen recording software" and you are in business!

        Hope this helps.

You dont need to show your face.. in fact I wouldnt show my face until I had the right camera equipment, box lighting, microphone, etc etc..

Powerpoint presentations with camtasia or desktop recordings work fine..

Some tips I can give you.

Write everything you want to say.

    Don't move a lot.

    First 5 seconds say nothing.

Introduce yourself and end with a thank you.

I think your problem comes from a similar thing
that was holding me back in the past.

Trying to be perfect and trying not to mess anything up.

Being a perfectionist can hold you back from realizing success.

Trying to be perfect leads to procrastination .

First thing you have to do is leave your baggage at the door.
There is a saying a closed mouth will not get feed.

You don't have to be perfect.

      That will never happen.

All you can do is be the best you can right now.

Don't worry about saying the wrong thing and know
rejection is part of the process.

Know some people will not like your video and dish you some smack talk.

Others will say that you are scamming and troll you videos.

Some people will just not like you for who you are just because you being you.

But many people will appreciate your video and want to do business with you.

      S.W.S.W.S.W.

Some will, some won't, So what.

Go into this knowing these statements to be
true to release the burden of fear.

There is nothing to be scared about.

And it is ok to mess up. Because you will.

That is fine and apart of the process.

All you can be is the best you can be today.

Only experience will make your better.

Not by trying to be perfect and getting ready to get ready.

And the result of not just "Doing it"

In this case will result in not gaining more traffic.

To be honest, there are no tricks or tips anyone can give. That's a very short term fix and it doesn't resolve your issue long term.

The best and only way to do it it so make a Youtube video. That's the only way. Jump in and do it.

We are our biggest critics. No one is going to bite you.

You're kind of damned if you do and damned if you don't. In situations like this, I always decide I may as well just do it.

You obviously want to do this so if you don't you'll regret it.

If you do, maybe you'll do something embarrassing.

Guess what... people do embarrassing things everyday and other people forget about it VERY QUICKLY. But you'll never forget if you don't do something that's important to you.

As for something practical you could try to help you get over your fear: this exercise works for me.

First, identify what it is you're actually scared of.

Second, imagine what you're scared of happening in the worst possible way (go really crazy with your imagination here)

Third, think through how you would cope if that worst case scenario happened.

Usually, once you've realized that you can cope pretty well with even the worst possible outcome, you'll know you can cope with whatever is actually likely to happen.

Now do a similar exercise imagining the most amazing, life changing thing that could happen doing it.

Imagination is a powerful thing. Use it wisely.

There isnt any better way than start to practicing.

The more you do it the better you get.

It doesn't have to be perfect so nothing to fear...
and if you make a mistake or two "who cares"
Hope you understand what i mean.

I'd say just start and you will see a difference very soon.
    Good luck !

      Practice.

The more you practice making videos and talking in front of a camera, the better you'll get. You may not think this way now, but trust me, after a few times doing it, you'll start noticing yourself getting into a rhythm and having more confidence.

I remember when I first started, I was stuttering like crazy, mixing words up, not looking at the camera much, and more (lol). After I practiced for a few times, I loosened up and the video started looking a lot better.

I was nervous when I started making videos. The first one was bad. I stuttered and I looked very nervous. I can't honestly say the second or third or fourth where much better. But, I found the more videos I made, I looked less nervous. I didn't have as many pauses while talking. I didn't stutter as much. Now, a year later my videos look pretty good to me. I am not embarrassed to show my face. Long story short, the more you do the better you become. You just have to start with the first one!

I was the same.... Knowing so many people are watching you.... but after 1 or 2 videos you get the feel for it and you don't really care.... Who cares who see's you.... It's likely that none of those people will ever see you in real life anyway

As some said, you don't need to use your face.

Think of videos like Google Ads but Free and with more features to convert
(can use images, music, nice fonts etc).

Just motivate your viewers to visit your url

    Hi,

You don't necessarily have to have yourself in front of the camera.

I find that using my own voice and providing useful and actionable
content within my videos gets me traffic, builds my relationships with my
readers and directs my visitors to my blog, squeeze page etc etc.

Just get something out there quickly.

Then once you overcome that fear then look to add yourself in front
    of the camera also.

Good luck and hope you overcome this fear.

    Regards
    Gavin
