How many social media accounts do you really need?

My colleague and I are arguing about how many social media accounts you would need for marketing. I think having Facebook, Twitter, and Google+ are enough. She thinks in addition to that you need to have Tumblr, Pinterest, Instagram, LinkedIn, etc., basically more is better. Which one of us is right? Shouldn't you consider your market demographics when choosing what social media platform to use?

It is not effect that How many social media account do you need. Becasue I only use the Facebook, Twitter But I get more than enough result through using this both social media account. The matter is how you use social media account. It doesn't matter how many account we use? Because using too many account you are not focus on your original goal.

I would say if you can stay up to date, consistent and congruent with multiple social accounts then the more the merrier.

You can also use tools to sync updates across multiple networks.

Personally I use: Facebook, Twitter, G+, Pinterest & Linkedin

Too much does not matter. It helps you to get links and visitors. But yes, it matters how you use it. To build online reputation, social medias works great. But concentrating on few social media sites and doing actively is best.

It depends on what your marketing, but as long as they are relevant and you can run each one on a consistent basis, it does not matter. Just always provide quality content.

FB, Twitter, Pinterest, Linkedin, G+, Youtube. You can interlink accounts and share the same content. Eg: Twitter auto posts to fb. Sharing your Youtube vids across all platforms. It's content syndication, not extra work.

Not "how many" BUT "how much."

I think that is what you should be focusing on.

Social media is all about building a community of engaging fans/followers. So, you have to go where that community is. Focus on where they flock, stay and engage.

Doing that doesn't necessarily mean having all the social media accounts.

Try to focus on one account for different social media sites and interlink them for your niche. Make sure that you will offer something to them very attractive in your own niche, so that they may keep following you or be-friend you for good.

  • Thanks for the advice. I'm wary of getting a lot of social media accounts because I want to make sure I have a good community before I try something new. Yes, I do link my accounts because it makes things easier.

2-3 good social media accounts are enough. Number of accounts doesn't matter it depends the kind of info you are sharing and how good are you in engaging the visitors.

    Thanks.

I believe targetting people through facebook and instagram is enough. It also depends upon you what you want to pick. I feel easy to manage both of my facebook and instagram accounts so don't want to have any other social account.

Use as many as you can handle...there is plenty of software/web services to manage multiple accounts and you can use the same content on all of them (i.e. share your new blog post link, post an image, add an offer). Why limit yourself?

I think if you're going to settle the argument, you can't really come to a valid, semi-scientific conclusion until you try them all. Yes, it's time, but it's important to know where the heaviest traffic you have will come. Facebook, G+, LinkedIn & Twitter are what I refer to as the "primary" social media sites. Instagram, Pinterest, Tumbler...these are "secondary" social media sites.

Sometimes a secondary social media site is necessary and helpful, but you can't always be sure. It depends on your product, your site, your demographics, etc. I say, try them out for 3 months, build them up honestly, and see what happens. You may find that Instagram brings in more customers than any other site, and Tumblr only costs you time and effort. These sites are certainly not codependent on each other, however, so I don't think if you have a Tumblr but not a Pinterest, you'll be a failing company. It's not all or nothing...it's the ones that work for you.

    Hope this helps.

It does not matter how many account the thing which is matter is quality of the accounts. Using twitter and facebook properly with few accounts will give you better results. So dont go for the quantity just go for the quality of followers and fans.

It depends upon the company usage, if the company is using real name in social media, I don’t think it will harm, but with fake names it might hurt. As my business is social networking and web advancement I truly appreciate looking into the best devices and have improved a portfolio of extraordinary instruments and a workflow that works well for me.

It is totally depend upon your ability and time. If you have sufficient time and you know the process on how to do social media marketing, then you can create multiple accounts according to your requirements. But if you have created more accounts and you don't have sufficient time or you don't have idea on how to promote it, then you will never get any profits.

Even one social media account is enough for generating good traffic or increasing sales but should be the master on that. I think Facebook is enough for generating a huge amount of traffic. Only you need to know the process on how to do it properly.

What matters most is where you get more leads and sales. It's not how many but if you can properly handle several and you are more productive, then why not, right? I agree though that if you focus on too many, your focus will be divided and that's not efficient.

If you are using too much accounts, you yourself will get confused and may not focus on any of them . You have to use maximum 5 of the best social media websites. I would suggest FaceBook,Twitter,G plus, Pinterest,Linked In and make a good completed profile with interesting posts and updates, which will surely earn you more traffic.

It's best to have as many possible. I think the essentials are Facebook, Twitter, G+ and LinkedIn. It never hurts to make more, and video marketing platforms like YouTube and Vimeo can also help a lot in increasing your web presence.

A rule that I am fond of is always making sure you define objectives, and then consider which specific platforms can help push towards those goals. Different platforms work for different people or businesses, and there really is no "one size fits all." Don't just immediately jump on every new social media trend that emerges. Pick the ones that will help you reach your objectives, and stick to those. If you decide that Facebook, Instagram, and Pinterest are the ones for you, that's fine- decide and stick to them. If a social media platform isn't going to help you meet your specific goals, don't waste your time with it.

I would really like to stick to few in start, see results and then move to other, if results are better from Starters i would upscale them
But you would also have to consider what niche you really are?
If you are entertainment, food, quotes,
Then you must join facebook, pinterest, TUmblr, Instagram
If you are more in a like professional niche then you can go for Linkedin, facebook, twitter
In start i don't think you should consider demographics,
