StumbleUpon is a GOLDMINE

Seriously, if you're not using it you really should be.

I did a small amount of testing the other week on a niche and was trying to promote traffic through Pinterest.

Thing is I set up a Social plugin on my Wordpress blog which automatically posts to StumbleUpon, Facebook, Twitter, and some other random journal websites etc...

Before anyone asks, it was this plugin:

WordPress › NextScripts: Social Networks Auto-Poster « WordPress Plugins

Just a couple automatic posts to StumbleUpon over a couple days and it was obvious how powerful this site can be for traffic, especially since users can choose to follow all of your posts if they like what they see.

If you're not using StumbleUpon, you should really consider starting to.

Where's the gold? How many nuggets did you collect and how much you get for them?

72 visits from a couple auto-posted Stumbles. There's a lot of potential here.

How do you promote on Reddit? Kind of interesting in using this but I've heard that it's not really worth the hassle because they are stringent on spam.

I haven't done much testing with Reddiit so I'm not sure.

One of my sites is getting 300 to 400 visits per day from Stumbleupon. I am using that same plugin. I get mostly zero visits from any of the other social sites my stuff gets posted to.

I have found in the past that Stumbledupon visitors never click any of my ads, so basically worthless in my mind.

    Yeah StumbleUpon is nice.

I don't even do any stumbling or use it at all in my marketing (yet) and one of my sites gets about 5K visitors a month from there.

To be honest, if there were no way of earning money from blogging, there would not be millions of blogs. And to earn more, you need more traffic. By using StumbleUpon, you can easily increase your blog’s traffic and earn more from your blog’s earning source.

It's nothing special, a forum in which I was asking a question about my site. So it's the only traffic it would have brought me anyway, and not anything to monetize on... hence the reasons I blocked it.

What does it mean to automatically post to Stumble Upon? Does that mean that your blog post will pop up there? How does it work for Twitter? Is it just a link to your blog post?

Am definitely interested in checking out that Plugin. Sounds really effective.

Yes it means that the blog post will pop up there. It will "Stumble" your post and therefore add it to its directory so when stumblers are checking out the stumbles on the website, your blog post will come up in their results. If people "Thumbs Up" your post, it gives it a chance to be seen my more stumblers.

I'm actually working on a membership site in which one of the resources will explain all of the different ways to get traffic from Pinterest.

The basic way to get traffic from Pinterest is simply to pin images on your blog post. People will see this image and if they click on the image it will take them to your blog post.

A great way to get more traffic from Pinterest is to find group boards to post on. You find a group board like this one:

    ♥ Delicious Sweets ♥

You follow the board, and then the board creator will have instructions on how to become a contributor (a way to contact them asking to be a contributor).

Once you're a member, now you can pin to this board and therefore utilize all of the followers of that board to increase your exposure.

This method used to be much more effective until Pinterest issued a limit in which now you can only invite 5 people in a 15 minute period to your boards, and now it's slightly harder to get an invite.

I agree. Pinterest is a wonderful source to gather traffic. People love images and if your image is attractive then people will like and comment on your pin.

Not as much of a goldmine as it used to be. Much of the novelty has worn off so many people have moved on. I think its heyday was 2006/7.

I'm not sure what the quality of StumbleUpon traffic is, I imagine it's become mainly 13-16 year olds. But I agree, you can't beat getting traffic for something that automatically happens when you publish a post. Thanks, I'm going to implement this on one of my blogs!

Stumbleupon and reddit, these two are really good websites. If you're website design and images are eye catching, obviously it will attract user attention and more likely they will stumble the page and share it.
But for reddit, you have to be more careful. You can't spam there. But if you can write good title, you will succeed.

This is the key, catchy and unique content. If you're posting this type of content to your blog, then the content that is automatically stumbled due to the plugin will also be catchy and unique, and therefore it will get more stumbles and more traffic from stumbleupon.
