How Do You Actually Get Traffic From YouTube?

Hey folks

I used to just put a link at the beginning of the description,
but, looking at YouTube now, that does not look like its very
effective.

So, OK: I can create a video; I can upload a video; I can rank a video.

Bang, its on first page. People see it. People watch it.

But, how can I best get them to my website?

Thanks,

Richard

You need to give them a call to action, at the end of the video tell them to click the link in the description for...(what ever the reason is)
I've seen some videos where at the end of the video there are clickable images and links on the video itself, I'm not sure how to do that but it could increase the number of visitors.

Hey Richard, good question being that there is a massive amount of traffic to be got from the Good Ol Youtube.

I would suggest making use of the external linking feature they now offer.

Once you have your site verified, you can then have a link directly to your very own website.

But wait, it gets better )

Once you have your site verified, you can then ad captions to your video's, (you know the annoying boxes that appear when your watching clips), but when done properly, this is a very effective way to add a CTA that is also a clickable link to your site.

    You tube rocks my friend!!

    Good luck to ya ...

I agree great discussion i love youtube traffic. It all begins and ends with the content and of course the good ole CTA. There are plenty of fiverr gigs also that just put a clickable link on your video. I specialize in video marketing and it still seems to be 1 of the fastest ways to get traffic. I have even seen people review their own site on video to drive traffic there.

Best way is to get your site approve for "external linking" and create an annotation in your video telling them to "click here for ________".

This gets me hundreds of clicks

Yeah, this is definitely a perfect route to take. Plus you can add some voice over to encourage them to click (tell them what benefits they can get, etc.)

You will also gain at least some traffic from the link in the description field. Put it in first so it's the first thing people see - and ENCOURAGE them to click.

YouTube has brought a lot of traffic to my website. If you make a good enough video, you can send the traffic to your site. The conversion rates can be quite good at times, and some even subscriber for future videos and become returning customers. You need to spend a lot of time on he video, and make sure you optimize it for search results.

Optimize Your Videos Metadata. In terms of YouTube, the metadata makes up the title, descriptions and tags of your videos. Optimizing these key sections of your video content will help rank your videos in both Google and YouTube. Title Your Video Correctly. Write a concise, descriptive title using key phrases that people would search to find your video. Be as natural as possible, but also incorporate YouTube’s Keyword Suggestion Tool as an approximation of how much global monthly traffic a particular key phrase receives. Make sure you choose “exact match” when doing keyword research with this tool.

YouTube is the second largest search engine next to Google so to get more traffic is through keywords. Put keywords in your video title and make sure they are relevant, you just have to make sure that you don't spam. Carefully choose descriptive titles that can help people to easily remember and understand what your video is about.

agree with DJNeill - I get a lot of traffic from YouTube, it now outranks Google and sometimes Facebook. I put the link at the beginning of the description, then a call to action to visit the link with the link again at the end of the description. You also want a call to action at the end of each video with a slide or caption with your URL on it and call to action. People are in information overload so the simpler the better and just tell them what you want them to do and why.

Give them a call to action but personally I just let them come if they want to. I try not to push people to clicking links otherwise they will get annoyed.

well... I don't do that on YouTube anyway.

  • Hey Richard,

I actually just launched a WSO on this topic but I will help you out a bit here.

First of all make sure you are targeting keywords your avatar would be searching.

At the end of the video tell them to click the link in the video description and what the benefit of them clicking that link would be.

You can also use what is called a associated website annotation that makes a clickable link appear in the video itself.

Make sure you first associate the website you are using and that you have access to that website. You will have to embed a tracking code on the site or access your domain name.

You have to be a youtube partner in order to do that so apply to that by searching for youtube partnership.

    Hope that helps

What kind videos are you uploading?

There is actually a lot of power in simply saying "what I want you to do is go ahead an click the link below this video"....after engaging and building a little rapport of course.

Direct calls to action like that just work...and if you don't just tell people what you want them to do, they probably won't

Just think about what you do when you watch a youtube video. If there is no recommendation to do something that the video owner wants you to do, why would you look in the description for nothing?

Interesting thread, it goes on and on. I believe the purpose of the video is to provide a solution to a targeted audience, and if they are watching the video, then they are really interested in what you are offering. So they will definitely look for your website/products and services.

Just be sure not to "shout" - while making that call to action, do it professionally so that you maintain your rapport and get your purpose in the video.

I think you have to put your website inside the description, and the video itself has to contain your website link, it will make the conversion higher.

Basically, end the video with a call to action message. It can be something such as:

"OK guys, there are some links in my description with more resources. Please click on em."

Include in your video a down arrow. This reminds people to click on your description before the video ends because you tube now gets rid of the description when the video is over. Like this really sux!

It's going to start with the content of the video.
Will it provide great value, solve a problem, or
    help someone?

Once that is situated perform proper keyword
research. The right keywords better be in the
title. It should also be naturally placed in the
    video's description.

Now that your video has been set up to gain
that good ol' organic traffic, focus on the
location of your URL. The beginning of the
description is fine, but don't hesitate to
place them towards the middle and bottom
    of your description.

Eventually, those interested WILL expand to
"Show More" and read your description.
This is why you cannot underestimate SEO
with your video. With the large amounts of
traffic that will result from great SEO, the
averages will work in your favor.

The more keywords you place into your videos, the more opportunities it creates for people to find your video.

Transcribe Your Videos and Post the Entire Transcript into Your Video Description

YouTube allows you to post a video reply to certain videos, which means that on any video you publish, someone can leave a “video comment” that references your video, and this “video comment” will show up below your YouTube video.

When you have lots of authority websites directing links to your YouTube videos, they rank higher for their keywords, which boosts visits to your website. From your website, people see more of your videos, which boosts the rankings of THOSE videos.
