Youtube videos - what is the proper URL format?

Ok, this may be a very dumb question. Or may be not. After spending days and days creating videos and uploading them to Youtube, doing backinking and bookmarking, and all kind of promotion, I realized that maybe I promote them using a wrong link format. What type of format should I use for promotion - "http://youtu.be/" or "http://www.youtube.com/"? Why am I asking? Because I used only first type of format for all of the above, and now I realized that when I check my video URL on Ahrefs in youtu.be format, I see about 2k backlinks; but if I check in youtube.com format - I see zero backlinks - for the same video. So, now I wonder - was I wrong by promoting in youtu.be format? It doesn't count?

    I use the YouTube version. People trust you tube as it is a Google product, but there we go. Also, I have found that linking to you tube videos makes my ranking rise. Short URL is typically used on twitter to save space. Best of luck to you.
