[FB Ads] What the heck am I doing wrong?!

Hey everyone!

So I've been running a few different trial campaigns after a few weeks of studying FB ads but my results are.... awful.

I have no clue what it is that I am doing wrong.

I have tried three different types of campaigns both CPC, and CPM with targets between 400,000 people to 4.4M people.

The ad titles are questions, with answers and call to action in the description, and the photos are appealing with people in them.

Its for a christian university so I can't use inappropriate things such as cleavage etc.

I have attached numbers, and analytics for the three separate campaigns.
Each campaign is runnings 36 variations of ads.

If you have any advice please help!

Last year I ran a single fb ad for this same company that was optimized for likes, and currently its doing better than everything i've tried.
(which is very sad.)

Also if you need any other info I am happy to provide.

The point of these ads is to increase their fan base.
Typically I do a $10 per day for one month per campaign, but since im running 3 campaigns till I find the best one I'm only running $5 daily per campaign... but they are not even reaching those budgets...

I think you should re-think the campaigns. But before doing that determine your goal with acquiring fans. It wouldn't be hard to get fans, but turning fans into paying students is another matter.

If you simply want to get tons of fans, create a page with ads that will resonate with your target audience which doesn't blatantly sell the school. The page needs to be fun and offer something people will engage with.

However, simply acquiring fans doesn't mean you'll achieve your goal which I assume is paying students.

Ideas you could use to get fans for the sake of getting young fans are:

    Popular Christian music/books/movies posts/content
Relevant topics such as abstinence related topics with young people
    Popular Christian figures/authorities

While topics like these and many others may do well to acquire fans cheaply, it doesn't mean you'll get paying students... but you can increase exposure.

Once you have targeted fans, continue posting engaging content while promoting the school.

Yes, I think your targeting is a bit off. Why are you targeting "beaches".

  • AaronxJames,

I can't see the images that you attached because I'm totally blind, though as others above have said -- Your target audience selection for your Facebook ad seems to be the culprit. Here's how you can correct this problem:

First, use Social Lead Freak or another similar program to find active niche-related Facebook groups with large membership bases and to extract the UIDs (user IDs) of the members of those Facebook groups.

*** You can also search for another tool that can allow you to extract the UIDs of Facebook users who have liked other niche-related Facebook pages. We use a custom inhouse tool for this, which we developed on our own, since we can't find a tool that does this at the time we were searching for one, though our custom inhouse tool is limited to just 120 UIDs per Facebook page that we specify.

Second, go to Facebook Power Editor and use the UIDs that you gathered to create a custom audience.

Third, use your newly created custom audience as the target audience of your Facebook ad. While setting up your Facebook ad campaign, you may also further filter your custom audience by the other provided targeting options (age, gender, interests and so on).

    That's it...
