Is hosting important for my rankings?

Hi guys, is the host I use important for my website ranking on Google? My friends tell me that it is, but I don't really trust him. I host my website with Hostgator so just wondering

    Or, you could upgrade to a dedicated server within the same hosting company. At the very least, you could upgrade to a server account in which there are only a few other users, such as "Business class". These days you could go with 'cloud-based hosting', which is offered by many hosts these days, including Microsoft and Amazon. Cloud-based hosting allows you to increase resources as your web site usage increases.

    Hostgator is a very slow host. Their network is congested, and the server are overloaded.
    So yes, your SEO is suffering as a result.
    There are better hosts. Use one.

    Your choice of DNS plays a part in that too.
