Facebook newsfeed ads clicks and link clicks

For FB newsfeed ads, what is the difference between clicks and link clicks?

A sponsored ad normally is shared by a person/page, so it says in the header

X..shared a link

The ad header is linked to the same destination page as "link"
Below that, there's a http://.... also linking to the destination page.

So if those 3 go to the same destination, what's the difference?

I run a campaign for a few days and got 10 link clicks and 587 clicks. Clicks supposedly include pages likes and event. I didn't actually want to promote a page, but for each ad (4 in total) FB made me create a page since the newsfeed ad has to come from a page. Apparently I can't create more than 1 newsfeed ad coming from 1 page at the same time?

When I look at the resulting actions there are a bunch of post likes, couple of page likes and some link clicks. However the total of actions does not correspond with the total of clicks. So I'm confused about the results.

Thanks for your input,

The difference is exactly what you have already spotted yourself! The "link clicks" are the real value of what you wanted to have people clicking on your website. The rest of the clicks are to your Facebook page and on your ad which are largely lost inside of Facebook without getting what you want. Here's how you fix it to give you just what you want.

    1) Create a new Facebook ad campaign from scratch using "create ad" in the Facebook ads manager at https://www.facebook.com/ads/create/
    2) Enter your URL to start the ad.
    3) Uncheck "social show activity..." This is what allows Facebook to link your Facebook page directly
    4) If there is an option to create a newsfeed ad using your Facebook page, remove it.

These four steps will allow you to make an ad sending people only to your website which will ensure the clicks you are paying for translate to actual web visits!
