Google + versus Facebook can you empower my position

I am a member of a secret group on Facebook. Today there is a post from a guy who is doing a little bit of sneaky selling ( the page really forbids any kind of marketing) there are loads of rookies there and he is laying out like he is a complete expert on Google + and using a lot of emotive language about how in 18 months we will all be sorry if we dont follow him to some coaching programme for google +

now if some of the more expert people in here agree I would love to hear why. I have invested a huge effort into facebook, I have over 4.5k fans and most of my coaching clients come from there. I dont ever want to be complacent about the platforms I use to market. So educate/empower me so I have some informed opinions when I am there.

this is the crux of his opinion it's honestly not just about Facebook vs Google +. It's about The tag team of Google and YouTube vs Facebook. When combined they dwarf Facebook and that's not even adding in the fact of how you can use hangouts to host free webinars etc. Also, Facebook doesn't really encourage business anywhere near the way google does. You're thinking short term and I can guarantee you in 12-18 months you'll really wish you listened because now is the time if you want to get ahead of the curve.

If you are asking for reasons to stay with Facebook but ignore Google+ then I for one cannot "empower" that opinion.

Facebook is a powerhouse and with it's recent changes in advertising policy will continue to be a growing one.

However being a part of Google+ is not optional, especially doing what you do. G+ is integrated with search, individual empowerment (personal authorship) and many other Google properties.

I see both as essential for you.

I run fb ads for likes and end up getting traffic on Google for improved rankings because of the added 100-200 fans everyday.

I havent made many sales from fb page though.

G+ give more weightage to your site, and FB can bring lots of visitors and also weight but not as much as G+, thats what i noticed.

I haven't gone into GooglePlus but will be doing so soon. It looks like it's here to stay and it's better to get in early.

If you only casually market on Facebook, then you are going to get average results. Any social network can be made to work for getting traffic if you go at it hard enough. Same is true for Google+, which of course is more business oriented.

You're creating a false dichotomy and it's making you worry needlessly; Facebook and Google advertising are not mutually exclusive re: making money online.

Imo, Google+ will have easily eclipsed Facebook 18 months down the line, simply because we won't have any other option but than to use it and love it.

Some very smart marketers have been saying this for a while, but most people on this forum and elsewhere turn up their nose at G+.

It's never gonna "dwarf" Facebook. You have to understand that Google is playing a very different game from FB. Zuckerberg and gang have created the ultimate social media site, but Google essentially just wants to build a platform that integrates a host of various services and centralizes your identity, and it's willing to dish out SEO rewards in exchange for you playing nice with them. You can work with both. It's not mutually exclusive. Anyone who tells you otherwise...well, I pity the fool.

Pretty much that according to Google, they never intended to clone Facebook but were going after a different goal with Google+.

Another thing, if you look at Google+, you get a lot of 'Google love' posts, all praising the great Google and it's products. Many of those Google+ posts end up in Google search engine. So not a bad way to get some good publicity from Google lovers.

Exactly. Google chairman Eric Schmidt isn't even trying to hide the agenda. here's a quote from his last book:

Within search results, information tied to verified online profiles will be ranked higher than content without such verification, which will result in most users naturally clicking on the top (verified) results. The true cost of remaining anonymous, then, might be irrelevance.

Yep! The social media giant have been making it's own commutes to hold their users back in an efficient manner with it's ad driven policies, integrating graph search, android app, etc. Having such a deliberate aspects, there isn't a necessity to stand back from Facebook.
Simultaneously, you'll want the Google+ as it personalizes the search results. Just by inclining with one of the social media's will not be that better.

I have always got good results with facebook ads and post promote, both gives good targetted traffic. No doubt google+ has it's own importance and working on both facebook and google+ can be bigger success.

Google + Vs Facebook? I think this two shouldn't be competed with each other. They have different functions. So why not use both.

I also have question if someone still viewing this, How can we "optimize" a google plus page? Or is there really way to "optimize" it besides regularly updating it?

    Thanks

I don't understand G+ ... they seem to be more like a community building service.

Facebook is centered on "commerce" from the start. You can buy ads or facebook likes, and monetize your audience or get sales from other and larger audiences.

You cannot do such with G+

    Does this answer your question?

You should use both, I wouldn't understand why you think it is an either/or choice. And should you ultimately decide that you want to use one, just be contented with your choice and don't be distracted with what other Internet marketers are recommending. Just find what works for you and stick to that.

My priority list for social media marketing is

    1.Twitter
    2.Facebook
    3.LinkedIn
    4. Google +

Google plus is useful, whether it should be first on your to do list is another question. Currently I am waiting to see how Google + develops if it continues to grow and expand and they add features that are more appealing to marketers then I will move to there. My verdict right now is wait and see.....

  • Google + and Facebook have different functions in social media. Right now, Facebook is more market oriented while G+ is more community or content oriented. The smart thing would be to use both.
