You don't monetize social media sites.

You should have a blog or site where you are selling products or services in a specific niche, or a lead capture page to build a list of potential customers.

Your followers on Pinterest should be in that niche, if not, you just wasted your time and should start over.

The purpose of leveraging social media sites is to get your name out there to bring traffic to your "money site." You should be engaging with your followers to build relationships with them in the hopes of generating leads, which you hope to convert to loyal customers.

If you haven't done this, then start over and then do the following:

    1. Decide on a niche you are passionate about.
    2. Become an expert in that niche. Learn everything you can about that niche. By doing this, you increase the value of what you are offering to your potential customers.
    3. Find people on your social media outlets with the same interests and likes you have in said niche. Engage with them. In this manner you will never run out of content because you are here as a marketer to solve their problems, fears, and concerns. You can only find this out by forming relationships with and asking them.
    4. Write original, content that provides value to your followers by meeting their needs. You should have a call to action at the end of each post. Sweeten the deal by offering bonuses, such as free reports or an awesome audio or video.
    5. Create an effective email campaign that centers on the theme of you being able to help them out no matter where they are in their businesses or what business they are in. If you can write engaging content that can convey that message, you will gain customers that will continue to buy from you over and over for life.

    That's how you monetize.

I do have a blog that is connected to the pinterest account. But it doesn't seem to get many repins. What kind of stuff should I be pinning? Where do you normally find good image to pin?

If you have 8000 followers and very few re-pins, then most likely your images aren't very good.

You want to be sure you pin images that are related to your Pinterest boards and your blog niche.

If you don't use images on your blog that you can pin to your Pinterest boards, you can either purchase royalty free images to use, or use public domain images (just Google it to find sites) or use creative commons images from Flickr.

To learn how to choose good images that will get re-pinned, just go to the popular pins on Pinterest and see what kinds of images people are re-pinning.

        I hope this helps.

Well it depends upon various factors, you have total followers of 8k, or your profile followers are 8k, if your profile followers are 8k then i will suggest to go into recipes niche, recipes are the best converting and have highest Click through ratio on pinterest..
Next try to have some quotes boards, Quotes don't have good conversion on pinterest, but they they get you huge repins and eventually followers, A couple of hundred quotes pins and your followers rate will multiply,
But make sure to pin from your own sites,

Total followers are combined distinctive followers of all your boards, these are the followers that show up on your profile, profile followers are those who are following your profile this means they are following all your boards at a time, and if you will make new boards they will be already following them
So to see your profile followers just make new board and the number of followers on your new board are actually your profile followers

Thanks for this information about the recipe niche. And, I have one question about Pinterest. Would you pin photos from your Facebook page that you had uploaded or just from your blog? Would this type of cross pin on Pinterest work to increase traffic to various sources, not just a blog?

If you can pin images from Facebook (I've never tried it) then it should definitely work to get more traffic to your FB page, which would increase your likes.

I don't think you can pin from facebook pages, haven't tried it, but ion pinterest you can integrate your account with facebook and twitter, this is working great for me, each time you will pin something on pinterest it will be automatically posted to your facebook page and twitter

In any case, always have a primary website you can link to via your Pinterest account. Even a regular blog with offers will do.

Start converting some of these Pinterest followers into real life followers and you'll quickly see your sales rise. Use a Pinterest software of some kind to scrape/watermark/repin with your website URLs back to your 8K followers.

Traffic is something that you would want to go get from Pinterest. On the other hand, if you are looking for something that will "click" on Pinterest, maybe you should begin by understanding what your 8k followers are like and what they actually like for you to come up with a more specific strategy.
