Contest/Giveaway For Likes?

So, I'm running a contest on my Facebook page here.

I'm giving away a free, brand new iPod Shuffle 2GB in any color.

All people have to do to enter is Like the page and share a post.

The winner will be announced on December 1st (just in time for XMAS).

My question is this...

Has anyone had good results for something like this in the past?

I plan on doing regular contests and mainly want to build up my fanbase.

My actual site is only getting around 40-60 uniques a day right now...

But has only been up for 2 weeks and went from 20M on Alexa...

To around 3M....Any tips?

Well if you mean getting banned from Facebook as 'good results' then Im sure lots of people have. You can not require people to share a post in order to enter a post contest.

      Why can't I?

I see tons of established pages (big companies) that do it all the time?

Can you point me to somewhere in the 'rules' that specify this?

      Thanks.

It's technically forbidden, but not very well-enforced. Facebook actually recently relaxed their rules to allow likes contests.

I would follow this guide when running your promotion: The Advanced Guide To Sweepstakes (I put it together)

I would rather you up your reach with FB ads. You can quickly get fans using FB ads, and the best thing is that you can target the fans to get only those that are interested in your niche.

Agreed. The targeting makes buying ads on Facebook worth while.

Be careful when running facebook promotions and giveaways, it does not necessarily mean you will get more traction, but rather lose out on products you are giving away. Grow a little bit more before doing this.
