I have a Like and a Share button on every page of my sites, the option is there for people to choose and there is always a 1:10 ratio.

There will be 200 Likes and 2000+ Shares.

The reson for this is simple, clicking "Like" on a website is basically an endorsement from you for that website. Many users actually feel uncomfortable telling their friends that they "Like" xyz.com

However the act of "Sharing" is exactly that. Its not an endorsement or a vote or a big banner that says "I like pictures of cats, therefor I am less of a man" - It simply means "Hey, some of my friends might like to see this website"

I second "Shares." Not only will the share be displayed on the users page, but also the walls of the friends of that user. If your content it HOT then there is a good chance you can pick up some extra readers!

If people share your post, it means they find it interesting or helpful that they take time to share it. I believe the reason that people tend to like more is because like only takes 1 click and there are things that are easy to be liked but not always to be shared.

It's like when you want to sell something. Many people are interested to see the product (share), but only a few of them buy it (like).

The Share button on Facebook can do so much to help you drive more traffic to your website. One share could mean that everyone in the world will be able to read a post or watch a video. Sharing a post can go as far as crossing the world and that’s a very big advantage for all of us.

    Hello,

A share is completely different in that it is only someone sharing your content with their followers or friends (it could be either or both). They do not necessarily need to have liked your page or be your friend in order to share your content (depending of course on privacy settings).

Both are very valuable for SEO in different ways. One (the "Like") sort of gauges how influential your brand or page is. The other (a "Share") indicates how interesting and engaging your content is to other people.

It seems that the Like has more prevalence in that its recognizable thumbs up goes synonymously with Mr. Zuckerburg's machine, the Share has some weighty significance to your brand's content. Even though they may take different jabs at each other, both "likes" and "shares" go interchangeably with each other. If you want a large, quick audience, you want the Like on your team; however, if you want your content marketed at a more amplified scale, you would want the Share on your side. With over 3.5 billion pieces of content shared on Facebook, there is a huge shift to the Share.

    Have a nice day

In my experience shares are much more important than likes, but I have no scientific research to back this up.

Study how Edgerank works. Shares have a larger weighting. I am assuming Patelpunit that you were hypothesizing and do not actually get 2000 shares for every 200 likes. That would be quite amazing and I would want to know how you did that.

ranking your own website pages would definitely require diversity, social signals from major social sites,
If you are talking about ranking pages inside facebook, i think it is quite complicated and there are a lot of factors,
Rather you should try posting posts which can go viral, along with likes and shares, comments play vital role in your post to go viral in facebook
So we usually post stuff like, puzzle, and IQ.. i.e can you count these sticks..
How many circles do you see,?
How many persons can you count?
