google+ plus page or profile?

I really don't like messing with the whole social network thing, but it's more and more necessary, and therefore unavoidable.

Google plus allows users to set up a business page for a brand. So I could set up a page for my website. And I could use the rel=publisher. That would be great, except only rel=author shows my smiling face beside a post in search results. And the only way to use rel=author is from a personal profile.

(Facebook is something like this too, right? I remember setting up a page there before, and every time I tried to comment somewhere, it forced me to use my profile instead of my page.)

So the question is: since I obviously need a Google+ personal profile, there really isn't any advantage of setting up a page too, right? I mean, managing social stuff is painful enough for me without managing pages and profiles.

Or maybe I could set up a page for seo, but only actively post on my profile?
