Yes and no for me. It's by far the most popular, and that brings many benefits like the community (support), plugins, themes and overall, it's the best product.

That said, with size comes some downsides; security, agile/speed and it has to be said, PHP whilst good enough has it's problems.

Regardless of which platform you choose, optimizing for traffic is largely agnostic of the software in many ways; you need to optimize whatever platform you use - be that Drupal, Joomla, Blogger or indeed Wordpress.

Personally, I usually choose Wordpress for smaller projects but Drupal for larger ones.

I think facebook is the best for traffic. But you should not rely on only one social platform or only one source of traffic (like most of us do).

Word press is the best platform because if the others wanted to delete your blog they can. By owning your own domain and installing word press your posts are never going to be deleted. This protects your creatives.

Googles Blogger is a great search driven platform as well. Recently, I started a niche blog there. I titled the blog and added several keywords on it and that was it. No content. The next day I logged in and check the traffic and it had a whopping 95 hits all from Google searches.

Facebook traffic is great as well. But what if you did this:
    1. Install a word press blog as your niche home site.
    2. Build a blog at blogger about a certain segment of your main niche and give yourself backlinks to your home blog.
    3. Use teaser content on social sites like facebook, twitter, GPlus and any or all of the top SSM's include backlinks to both blogs spots.
    4. Then ramp up your traffic from forums and article directories and guest blogging.

How much more traffic could you get back to your sites?

I would have to put up a bit of a different idea myself.

I have done wordpress, and it is ok.

That said - any effective blogging system usually requires that you get a domain, and set up advertising if you are going to use it to make money. In addition, you may need to get advertising, and such as well.

I personally use a different blogging system myself - which started as a wordpress setup, but was developed further into something that can be easily done from a computer or a smartphone. It was, in fact, developed FOR the smartphone.

To be able to do video, images, and text with just a couple of clicks - being able to take a video on your phone, put it up online within 10 minutes - that is a lot better than the wordpress or any of the old blogging systems.

I personally use the Empower Network platform. While it can be used to make money, it is also a very good system to use for blogging in general, even if you weren't looking to make money.

It includes domain mapping, the ability to run multiple blogs easily, the ability for a posting to go viral, instant media uploads, reblogging system, and several other items.

A more specific description on it can be found by clicking here.

By far, this is the most powerful blogging system I have found.
