Is StumbleUpon effective?

To be honest I've never understood StumbleUpon and it's audience.

Is it still a relevant social media site? Should I be targeting that in addition to FB, Twitter, etc?

Is there a best approach if you've never used it before? Are paid ads effective?

I believe anything that gives you exposure can be effective, all depends what you do with it. You need to know techniques to use. It's a combination of many little things.

These are some of the challenging questions to answer, because a channel that makes one money may not make a penny for another.

Happens all the time, find a mentor who can give you good guidance and follow it, problem is when we are starting off we claim to be coachable when we are actually not, because more often than usual we end up doing our own thing.

It certainly can be. Depends what you're trying to accomplish though. It's not going to be high converting traffic but can help you go viral if you have an interesting post.

I like Pinterest too, but I much prefer Twitter to Facebook. I just find Facebook has so many damn bells and whistles that I haven't got a clue what to do for the best. Where as Twitter and Pinterest are so much more easier to use.

I always prefer simplicity over complexity when it comes to social media simply because, for it to be effective I need to do it on a daily basis, and the easier it is to use the more likely I can incorporate it into my daily marketing routine.

in can generate traffic but tends to be untargetted. Twitter is best for targetted traffic as you are directly relating to your followers who are already aware of your brand.

StumbleUpon Paid Discovery often has a pretty good stick rate if you're in the right niche. However, Stumblers aren't big of fans of marketing sites, same with Reddit and the like, but humor/taboo content is up their alley, along with informative content, especially "life hacks" and psychology-related stuff.

The difference between StumbleUpon's advertising system and something like Facebook, is that you will not actually be creating advertisements. You are paying to have your content served up more frequently when the site's users hit that Stumble button. This means that people are taken directly to your page, without having to click anything. And thatmeans that you don't have to spend any time coming up with attention-grabbing graphics and copy that fit into a pre-determined ad size.

So, Paid Discovery might be the way to go to drive traffic to your site depending on the niche.

Yes it is effective, but you need to understand the mental frame of the people browsing Stumble upon as the name says it, they are just looking for "whatever" they are bored and just Stumble pages furtheremore in order to get the best of this site your content needs to be enternaining, funny, etc... if you are in a very technical field or trying to educate people definitely this is not the channel to do so.

Its very effective because when a stumbleupon story is liked by many users, the story is served to more people. That why having some dedicated followers helps, and also paid exposures and social networks like shareyt can help a lot

I might echo what others have said. But two important points as per my experience:

    a. Do I get traffic from stumbleUpon? Yes
    b. Do they convert? No. It is nothing compared to FB and twitter.
    {{ DiscussionBoard.errors[8874088].message }}
  • It can be ok. But only for PPC.

that site works mainly on popularity of the site pages that people submit, and things like product promotions is not something that people are willing to share on that platform.

When you are into making top10 lists, or relevant news articles about something. And you throw in some adsense ads, that is where the fun starts with stumbleupon..

I have seen some great results using stumble upon for some of my niches and ZERO for plenty of others

It really depends - however if you have content that fits one of their many niches - what does it hurt to submit it there too?

Its just another avenue to drive traffic to your content

I find StumbleUpon to be a waste of time (generally).
The content is rarely ever categorized properly, and
there are a lot of GIFs, jokes, and other nonsense to
    be found.

Every once in a while I'd find something resourceful,
but you'll really have to weed through the mess.

As for using the StumbleUpon mobile app that's a
whole different animal. I ended up uniinstalling
within two weeks of being patient.

I never had success with Stumble Upon till I launched a quotes website in November. in Dec I started stumbling some of the quotes from my website, and some of the quotes went viral, one quote actually attracted 22K visitors.

Then I decided to try adsense and see if the traffic would make me any money. The conversations were terrible, but I did make over $100 in December. It's money I wouldn't have been able to make.

For a new site, I really can't complain. So, I am loving Stumble Upon right now . . . I still need to figure out how to properly use Twitter and Facebook

I believe that if you are consistent with any social media site, you will get favorable results. The problem is that you don't have time to really engage in all of them successfully to really pull the leads that you desire. So I say, test the social media sites that you enjoy the most and track your results and then focus on those. My favorite, hands down is YouTube, Facebook and LinkedIn.

With social media it's all about the niche. Some things work, others just don't. As people previously stated, FB Twitter and Pinterest are better for market.

I must also add YouTube, as rankings your videos for certain keywords is incredibly easy.

    Good luck!

I've been bookmarking my sites for years on StumbleUpon and only last week did I finally hit it big with over 2,000+ visitors to my site.

I did nothing different than what I normally do just made a post on my site and simply bookmarked it on Stumbleupon.

After that my next post that I bookmarked also continues to get over 2,000 views but the traffic like a lot of others have said is not as good quality as FB and twitter.

But I will continue to use it because even though my traffic didn't stay at 2,000 visits a day it certainly increased my average visits from 20-30 a day to 150-200 per day.

Instagram is Rockin' now! I checked the cool FREE training on it and it doesn't matter what you're promoting it can help you.

Anyways, it doesn't sell anything so it make sense to go through it and use theses techniques.

I use it to bookmark one of my movie sites and I get a small trickle of traffic.

However, there was one post that happened to be on a day there was an eclipse and the film just happened to be called Luna, which is moon in Spanish. Anyway, I had no idea that this was happening but I got a massive traffic spike in the 1,000-2,000 range that lasted a couple days. I've never been able to duplicate that again.

So, I think it can be very effective to send traffic to your sites but you have to be very selective and strategic with what you bookmark.

    Hello,
StumbleUpon is great for getting online traffic. But, to get traffic from stumbleupon is really difficult. You have to spend hours and keep on clicking stumbleupon button, to give up vote or down vote. Then and then only they will send traffic to your site.

    Instead use pinterest and reddit.

They both are pretty good and gives you more traffic than stumbleUpon.

    Hope this helps !
