How are people getting away with this on Facebook?

Hello, I'm Jocelyn. Long time lurker, first time poster.

I recently got my hand slapped by Facebook by having followers on one of my pages share a post for an opportunity to enter a prize drawing. I understand that it's against their rules, but how are other people getting away with this?

Several clothing companies pages I've liked do this almost every day. I have attached a photo of one such photo. What am I doing wrong?

Could it be possibly your image? See if your ad meets the 20% of text limit for an ad image:

To see if your ad meets the limit of 20% of text for an ad image, using their grid tool. This tool is a 5x5 grid with a total of 25 boxes (see below). We recommend marking five boxes on the grid in order to determine whether your creative is likely to be deemed acceptable.

I didn't use an image. Mine was all text. Mine was also not boosted.

The image you have uploaded is way too small, I can't read it.

You might have been reported. Also it wasn't clear - did you used ads, or you posted something on your page?

This graphic says "Comment to win" .. it then continues to say "And share to" notice it does not say sharing is required to win.

Comment to win and like to win are perfectly acceptable. Share to win is not acceptable.

They are getting away with it because they haven't been caught/reported. There are several offshore (from the USA) companies making a tidy sum selling PVAs for the spammers to use. Spend a couple of bucks on the PVA, spam like crazy and make $20-$100 before the PVA is banned.

...Even if you're on the right track, you'll get run over if you just set there.

No need to get snarky... I realize that I inadvertently did not follow the rules. I guess I'm just confused because I still see a LOT of pages using the Share to Enter and the posts haven't been removed.

Here are contest/promotion rules directly from Facebook's guidelines.

you CANNOT ask people to take any other action on facebook to enter a promotion

you CANNOT ask people to like a status update, tag photos, upload photos, update their status, leave a comment, or write on your page wall to enter a promotion

you CANNOT use fb (either your page, their wall or direct message) to notify the winner of your promotion. You must collect an email from those entering for winners notification.

you CANNOT associate fb with your promotion or use the fb name, trademark, copyright etc.

you CANNOT communicate about or administer the promotion in some cases of location or prize type. read the guidelines for the whole list.

Most of those other clothes companies are using third party applications that link in through the Facebook API. Go take a look at Offerpop, Northsocial and Woobox and you can run promotions using those and won't get smacked.

It is how they keep themselves out of trouble.

Some of these terms are outdated. Facebook changed them to allow people to take actions for contest entries without using third party applications. https://www.facebook.com/business/ne...omotions-terms
