Although there are many differences till now I've noted some of the differences.
    They are:

    1. In group you can see how many times the post has been seen and by how many people but you can't do it in page.

    2. People can be restricted to join group while in page they can follow by just liking it.

    3. Group is like a forum but page isn't the same.

    Which is better to have?

It totally depends on your objective. If you are trying to provide more personal advice or tips then group can be an option. If you want to make a following then page can be a good option.

i am just wondering why build my own page to advertise in when i can go to other places and advertise on their fb group (some have 500k to 5 million) targeted facebook groups. they will let me advertise in their group if i pay them.

If people are offering to let you advertise on their groups for a fee, you could try that on one or two groups and see what kind of results you get.

However, there is a potential problem. Any group that openly offers sponsored advertising is likely to be flooded with marketers. If group members are constantly seeing offers and not much good non sales content, it's likely that click through rates will be low.

Also, if a lot of offers are posted regularly on a group, your offer will become less visible as it is pushed down by posts from others.

On the other hand, if you have your own group or page, you control what gets promoted there. If you provide good free content mixed in with the occasional sales message, you're likely to see higher engagement and better results.

You'll probably improve things even further if you can get your fans off of FB over time and on to a mailing list. Once they're on a list, they'll be much more likely to see your important content.

If you do this you are showing the page owner exactly what to do. One good campaign and he/she will start selling their own products and keeping all the profits.
