How to go from 1,000 Twitter Followers to 10,000?

Hey all,

I run a Twitter page where I syndicate images from across the web (all in the public domain for legal reasons). In the first 4 weeks, I went from 0 followers up to around 1,100 (which isn't bad since starting is very hard). Part of this process involved me following other users to generate knowledge of my existence. I got suspended for a few days early on (didn't know that following 400 people in an hour was frowned upon), but have been more careful since then.

I hit the 2,000 cap on people you can follow about a week ago. I've been periodically unfollowing people and following new ones, but not super aggressively.

Does anyone have any advice as to how I can jump from where I am (1,152 to be exact) up to the tens of thousands?

And, for the record, I am NOT interested in buying followers. All that does is raise the number; and, while I do want the number to go up, I want engagement to rise with it. I don't want to be one of those pages with 50,000 followers and no favorites / retweets on my posts. That's just silly.

Any tips are appreciated

    1. Follow other people in your niche, they will typically follow you
    2. Ask your followers to retweet tweets to their followers
    3. Tweet special offers
    4. Tweet images into appropriate trending topics, especially celebs if you have those,
    to gain organic followers

      I'm not buying followers. I don't need a high number; I need more engagement. For that, I need organic growth.
