My Facebook Page Engagement is Falling?

by zoro
30 replies
I have built a Local Biz Fan Page and have over 1000 Likes. Up until about 2 months ago whenever I posted a new status update I received good engagement and the post was seen by at least 50% - 70% of the Likers.
Now days whenever I post a new status update it's lucky to be seen by 10% ?

Has anything changed at Facebook that now brings these poor results or should I be posting differently?

Any ideas?

I think you can improve your Facebook engagement.
    Keep your update short,
    Do not use URL shorteners,
Post at time Idea for your fans,
Use the right words for higher engagement,
    Ask questions.

Thanks for your suggestions. Problem is, that the posts don't get seen by anyone much anymore. If posts don't get seen then how can I get engagement?

Face book reach has gone down for every one.
I have seen a big decrease in reach as well and its almost the case on every one pages.

    1) 1,000 Likes isn't much for a fan page, and costs about $10 to get that many Likes, so you've got some work to do in that department first

    2) Post engaging pictures that get shares and comments. They trump Likes any day of the week. If you need to, go to another page similar to yours and see what is popular (if available).

    3) Post more often. If you haven't been consistent with posting, then you will want to, to help bring the engagement back up to par

I think 1000 Fans for targeting a City of 5000 population is pretty good.

Now when I post an update I'm lucky if 100 people see it.

So what's the use of building a Local Fan Page if no one sees the posts?

Sure, Facebook could have changed something. But it's also important to keep variance in mind. Over time, your results will vary by a predictable amount. You need a large sample of data over time to be able to filter out this noise.

The danger is that if you change your strategy too soon you will never know if what you're seeing is noise or signal.

Incidentally, this is why most poker players and investors fail. They hop from system to system when things get bad. Internet marketing is similar.

I just read this article from Advertising Age, "Facebook Admits Organic Reach Is Falling Short, Urges Marketers to Buy Ads." Maybe this explains why fewer people are seeing your posts.

However, I agree with James Canz. Posting engaging, share-worthy content can help a lot. I don't think Facebook would stop your fans from sharing your content or prevent their friends from seeing your posts when your fans share them on their timelines. Perhaps you need to make sure that your fans will be raring to share whatever you post. From my experience, I see that posting images with funny or thought-provoking quotes works quite well.

I am not sure if I was right or not. But, When I start a new page, It seems the reach are high for a certain periods of time. And then it goes to normal like 10-15 percent of your total fans. Once it goes to normal rate, Make post is like make good facebook ads. Engagement rate decide how well this post will performance.

There have been some changes on Facebook algorithm since December 2013 where they have decreased the organic reach of your Facebook post to around 2% to 3% of your total fans. This is because Facebook wants you to use their paid ads or boost post feature to reach more people. You may want to check out this article: Facebook Algorithm Update

      Thanks for the info.

So what this tells me is that it's a waste of time getting setting a page with fans, better off just paying for ads targeted toward the Country & City.

It would depend on your strategy! I would still build fans for a new fan page to establish my page. Then send them to my offer directly later on...

Also, let me just reiterate that you can still get a lot of Facebook reach by posting an interesting post/image on your timeline. Facebook tends to show posts to more people if they see that most of the people who saw the post engaged (liked, shared, etc.)...

If the reach is now only 2% -5% of the page fans, what's the point of wasting time posting. I'm trying to run a business and all the fans Liked my page because it's local and relevant to them. Now I can't communicate with them on Facebook unless I pay for FB Ads ... Total Crap!

Well you can try to post a relevant content instead. If it gets a lot of engagements (comments, likes, shares, etc.). Facebook will show it to more people. I find it more effective posting an intriguing image related to my niche...

This has to do with the facebook algorithm. FB sees that the people who "liked" your page don't actually ENGAGE with your content. Soon after noticing that, FB will make it so that less of your posts appear in their timeline. At this point I don't think there's much you can do unless you're really willing to put in the work to get people's interest rekindled.

Have you tried pinning your post? Do you have a post that has been pinned for a long time?
    If so remove the pin!

Go to your notifications and create a personal message you can send to the people who you can. That will get them to take action next time you publish something resulting in facebooks algorithm showing your post higher in peoples news feeds! You might have to do this as your profile and not as your page.

what kind of content are you posting? It all needs to be relevant and engaging.

FB has brought the hammer down on reach for EVERYONE!!

My traffic has completely been decimated with what they have done all in the name of boosting FBs bottom line for their stock.

Ive seen pages that had 100's to 1000 shares down to double and single digits, and who use to reach millions now down to 100K or <! Even the top FB pages have been hammered check this out I posted this to my page earlier today with other content but these figures show fb has screwed everyone...

"This is Justin Biebers current stats "63,851,581 likes · 874,341 talking about this"; I’m using his page, and I don’t care if you like him or not, as an example to show it doesn’t matter who you are that fb is blocking EVERYONE'S content from reaching their fans! His page is just shy of 64 MILLION followers but only 874K are talking about his page. That means only 1.3% of his followers are engaged… maybe(some are sharing, posts have been "seen" and some comments here and there).

Lady Gaga: 63,593,028 likes · 513,738 talking about this
    Rihanna: 86,036,216 likes · 424,788 “ “ "
    Barack Obama: 39,356,001 likes · 533,581 “ “ "
    Red Bull: 43,070,447 likes · 383,015 “ “ "
    Coca-Cola: 80,173,020 likes · 707,189 “ “ "

Whether you have 5000 followers to 86million the site is blocking page owners content like us to high profile celebrities from getting out. "

Look at Rihana she is at .5%!!! HALF a percentage point in reaching her fans! This is bull whats going on and that said where else can one with no income/budget go to get traffic?

Yep, Facebook is rewarding bigger businesses on the engagement front, since organic views are dying. I'd migrate toward Google Plus pages, or hitting up twitter with increased engagement, to boost views and rock it out.

I think my mistake was running a test ad campaign for a week. Reach dropped precipitously the day after the campaign ended. So, I'm left with 115,000 people, engagement of 119,000 and reach that has dropped 90% in one week. Dummies. I would have paid for advertising, but not if I'm not even going to reach the people that sign up. What's the point? I'll just pay to advertise individual products and not sweat the page. Bummer since it helped so many people and I loved running it.

I hear people say don't include links for a few days. Will that bring up organic reach? Will it drop again immediately after including links? Also, does facebook advertising of any type bring up organic reach, take off the limiter, so to speak?

Btw, this got me to make the long delayed move to Google+.

    Thanks, all!

OR, focus on getting them off of Facebook onto a website you run, perhaps a members site.

And most definitely onto your list. That way you have them in various places.

Facebook is definitely not dead as one person keeps saying, but you do need to think outside the box.

    Good luck :-)

Evidently, Facebook being a business is now cashing in, after providing free lunches to page owners.
However, if you put out the right kind of content - that is fresh, engaging content, that people actually WANT to SEE and SHARE, you're going to be fine.

People don't want to read about your boring business/website every day.
If that's all you put out, stuff about you/or even your offers or your business, or your cat or whatever, Facebook will make sure NOBODY sees your posts at all.

    Give them what they want.

    My two pence.

Not quite correct. I have one FB Page that is for people to advertise items for sale. This page used to have very high interaction with the other users simply because everytime someone posted a a new item for sale almost evryone saw it in their newsfeed. Now were lucky if 10% of users see it.
So it has nothing much to do with me posting interesting stuff.

    Hi guys,

Here are few more tips which I am using for all my 10 pages and my fan following is growing and growing. Hope you'd find it helpful.

    Legit Tips:

    1. Change your Facebook page URL:

Well first of all you should change your facebook page URL to a custom URL something Like this facebook.com/yourcustomURL.

    2. Customize your page like a professional:

This one is must, Only having a facebook fan page is not enough for your blog/website/business, you got to do same serious customization like...

    a) Creating a cool looking timeline pic
    b) Add other socail media Tabs like twitter and youtube.
    c) Sign Up form so that people can subscribe to your email list. In this way, you can also build your Email List.
    d) Add "Visit My blog or website" custom tab
    e) Write description about page and do forget to add your blog and website URL in that and Make it sort and precise.

    3. Post during Peak hours:

I mean how can you expect someone to like your page when they are sleeping or doing other stuff ????

To find out the "peak hour", post 2 and 3 content at different time and check on what time your post is getting more responce. Note that time and try to post only that time.

    4. Be consistent.

If you are posting only one post per day, make sure do that because it may be chance that your followers are waiting for your content.

    5. Do not buy facebook likes:

Now if you want to promote your page.....do it in legit way. Hire facebook page....hahahaha Good line "Hire facebook"...okay hire facebook to promote your page.

I promoted my 3 pages using facebook and i can tell that its really cheap(100 likes for only 1 dollar) and your going to get quality followers.

    6. End your post with ?????

Yes this always works, end your post with one or two questions and let your followers answer then.

You'd see that sometime your one post can create one "war room" where your followers are fighting with each and other......and you are going to love that .

    2.Tricks :

Now as you know, "too much honesty can kill you", its time to learn some tricks.

I think you have already heard about like exchange websites....if not simply search on Google.

If you are using any of these website, here is one tips that you may find interesting.

As you know all like exchange website are providing affiliat program and they are asking you to share their links on facebook, twitter, google.....blah blah...

just share that link on your facebook account and then add that post to those website for sharing. got my point or not ,

okay let me explain one more time.

Whatever like exchange website you are using right now, it is also giving you their affiliat program...right?

Share your affiliat program on your facebook timeline and then add this post to your like exchange website for sharing....now two thing is going to happen.

    1. if someone is going to sign up through you post, you'd get extra points for it.
    2. Other people are sharing your stuff so it may be chance that their friends are going to like you page.

Ohhh boyyyy, I can't believe, I have written this much.....okay guys one more

    Last Tip

if you'd face any problem during your facebook page customization, you can visit my blog because i have written everything which you are going to need for your page customization. And the best thing is, you can customize your page for FREE by using my methods.

    Hope you liked it.
