Anyone running a small social media marketing business?

Does anyone run or own a social media marketing agency/business? I know this is not a new concept, but recently I've had a few of my older-small business owner friends ask me to help in their social media presence. I know almost everything there is to know about Facebook, Twitter, Google+, etc. (I grew up in MySpace's heyday afterall).

Anyway, just looking for some guidance on services to offer and for how much? Charge per status update? Tweet? Likes gathered? Monthly maintenance?

yep my company (marketing and branding agency for the nightlife industry) also offers social media services. It ranges from coaching their team on best practices, to design and creative work on their pages, to full daily management of their accounts (content, posts, comment and replies etc).

One of the things that they love (that you probably also have) is the constant research on the social media landscapes and being on top of those changes. We know how often Facebook changes its algorithms.. these owners have NO idea about that stuff.

My biggest challenge is getting them to see the invisible ROI on social media. Don't undercut yourself with cheap fees so that they buy into it, it does take man-hours and work, but try to create some kind of lead generation in there as well so that there is some small way to show ROI.

    have fun!

Yup, I actually had one friend say to me, he would get as far as logging into Facebook and then be done because he has no idea what is going on. Let alone trying to figure out any new changes FB makes (such as their recently redesigned timeline).

As for fees, % of new income generated was one idea. I've also done a little research and seen monthly packages offered online for a set fee, for a specific set of tasks performed.

We have a Facebook Group posting tool which has worked pretty good for marketing your business further than just your business FB page. You can reach out and let a lot more people know what you're doing whatever business you're in. You just join groups based on your niche then schedule posts from there.

I am currently working with a few clients that are interested in SMM services, but I don't have a company.
The toughest part is convincing your client that they REALLY need a Social Media presence in these days, but looks like you got that part covered.

Since you're interested in prices, just do a quick local search of similar companies, and what prices they charge. I'd advise selling your services for a lower price to build a customer base first, then compete with the other companies.

My web design clients frequently ask for Facebook fan page set ups, so I include it as an upsell. I've recently begun creating custom fan pages and apps, which is starting to become very profitable.

Setting up social media accounts for clients is also a valued service, but many clients don't have the time or interest in posting updates, so you might be able to create a niche for yourself there too.

        Good luck and have fun!

Your website looks great glass man, but just a heads up that your social icons on the top right don't link to profiles.

My business is not social media, but I do from time to time help local businesses with social media because it's something that some people don't seem to have enough time for. I think if you want to make money, you have to give customers a comprehensive social media plan with a postings calendar and then get them to try the service for a few months.

You are not offering social media marketing services, you are just a like/follow farm.

I used to run a social media business until I became a project manager for Boost Software. You can either charge hourly or per posts, or you could charge a flat monthy fee based on the number of posts you would make. I would suggest charging a decent living wage -- a good wage that you could support your family on if you have one.

My greatest test is getting them to see the undetectable ROI on online networking. Don't undercut yourself with modest charges so they get tied up with it, it does take man-hours and work, yet attempt to make a lead era in there too so that there is some little approach to show ROI.
