Getting Facebook Users To Get Out Their Credit Card

In my limited time using Facebook, I know that certain things work and most seem to involve either lead gen, dating, gaming, or getting the user to pay $5 for shipping and handling for their "free" product.

Has anyone had success actually selling a product/service on there for a considerable amount on a consistent basis?

Yes, for years now. However, I believe that if you are looking for a long term way of profiting from facebook, you are looking at it wrong. It's not a distribution platform, it's a communication platform. Put out good content in a way that people will WANT to hear from you, and will come back to you and get more information. Then after a series of give, give, give, you can put out an offer and get sales. It's basic Permission Marketing or Jab, Jab, Jab, Right Hook type of stuff.

Selling anything other than a low cost impulse buy is going to require some effort. You will actualyl have to build a relationship with your viewers. If you think your just going to pay for an ad and watch the sales start rolling in you will be disappointed.

So basically you have to either do a lead gen campaign to your web site or direct users to your Facebook tab and grab their email there?

I'm sure you're not just buying ads and sending them to your home FB page.

I rarely, rarely buy ads. I have a staff that consciously participates in facebook groups, responds to comments on twitter/instagram/youtube/facebook/etc and we consistently put out content (videos, blogs, pictures, etc) that our demographic finds useful. Since we are giving them content that's not garbage, they feel loyalty toward us. Every so often I will throw out the link on those different platforms for person to sign up for newsletter list, but it is in order to get them what they want... More content that's relevant to them.

Think about it this way... most people are looking at their phones whenever they are bored. Do you really think what they want to look at is another ad? People are bombarded with ads nowadays and they are filtering them out quite easily, specially the younger generation that is getting older. You have to earn their trust, you can't just tell them to sign up for your newsletter list or tell them to purchase your product and expect to gain any traction.

Create great content, Great blog articles, great videos, great pictures for Pinterest or instagram... Great articles for Medium... If you do this part of it well, they will want to keep checking you out because you are relevant to their needs and desires. At that point then you have earned the right to ask them to sign up on your e-mail list. The last thing that you want is a e-mail list it's full of people who could care less about you or your offering.

Yes, but not with direct Facebook ad clicks - I do it using remarketing ads on the landing page.

Here's the thing about Facebook... it's kind of the worst place to advertise a product if you're going for a direct sale. People don't visit social media sites to shop, they visit them to socialize. You'll get CLICKS, but most of them aren't in buying mode. They're too busy looking at pictures of food and cats.

But if you set up a remarketing campaign using Google AdWords that's triggered by the landing page of your Facebook ads, now your ad (via AdWords) will follow them around the Internet on other sites they're visiting, reeling them back in when they're in the right mindset to buy.

Give it a try. I've turned dismal Facebook campaigns (under half a percent conversion rate) to 3% by remarketing to those visitors outside of Facebook.

I've never heard of these tactics working. That's just me though, I could be wrong.

I've managed to sell my courses on Facebook for $29 and for discount prices at $15, etc, but the ad usually only makes me money for a few days, then it starts to stop converting and just waste money.

Most businesses treat social networks as a craigslist ad. Most don't make a dime from them....

It really depends on your target market.
Here in Asia, buyers prefer to text you directly and pay using local bank transfers.
