Facebook is reportedly slashing organic reach for Pages ... more

Is it a waste of time building a Page and spending valuable time promoting to them when, as FB says, only 1-2 percent of fans will ever see your posts?

Yes true, but why build a page with fans in the first place? You can still advertise to those same demographics.

Facebook is still valuable, I get a good percentage of traffic from Facebook daily, it's all about branding and content. I only post 1-2 times per week. Plus it shows how much your content is viewed on your page. It is pretty low compared to how many fans I have but I only post 1-2 per week.

FB as a public company is pushing the limits of value of participation in order to monetize. It will be replaced by an open source social network soon. The new open source network will have connection import tools so you don't have to rebuild your network. pooooof. friendster, myspace, facebook.

I agree they are going overboard on monetization. They forget people get annoyed with ads. If you noticed their pages ads have doubled or tripled, everything is looking more compacted now. I dont think it will be replaced anytime soon though. It would have to be a really creative idea that appeals to everyone even old people. I also used to never see ads in feed, I dont know if they just started that, but I dont want to see an ad more than once per day.

Facebook is a business, you'll have to pay more before you get much more. That's just the way it is..

Well, I wouldn't focus on building up a fanpage... but, build it up anyhow... not putting your focus on it, however.

Instead, use the fan page to take traffic off of FB onto your own website and/or list.

If you do a lot of FB ads, you'll be able to build your fan page anyhow... and this will benefit you later on whenever you want to promote to your fans through ads.

Yes, I agree. Build a fan page but don't focus to much on the page content, instead focus on ways to take FB users off FB and into your autoresponder list.

Many small businesses I know are just using their personal page for promotion. They post on their fan page and share the post on their personal page.

I wonder if FB is earning more reducing reach. It seems to me when reach was decent, more page owners would invest in acquiring fans... but I suppose FB crunched the numbers and realized forcing page owners to buy ads for traffic earns more for FB instead of the free traffic higher reach delivered.

On the plus side, fewer organic posts hitting Newsfeeds is opening space for paid ads.

I have about 40k active users on one of my pages. What are the best methods to build a good list from them? Ideally I would like to have them to subscribe to the associated website blog and perhaps even participate in a forum should I start one.

I highly recommend using this great FB software. Apart from all the other things this software does, it has a Video Opt-in App that gets you subscribers right from inside your page posts, it's awesome.

One Idea is to make an opt in form and put it in a custom tab. Offer a free giveaway for the email add.

If you have 40K, I doubt they will ALL opt in.

You could scrape all the likes of your page, make a custom audience and then create and ad showcasing the giveaway (something that matches your FP niche).

        Just one idea....

It doesn't make sense to build a Facebook fan at all unless you're a big brand with millions of fans. It is still a good deal to get traffic directly to a website from Facebook.

    This is ridiculous.
I've already spent money to acquire fans.
Now I have to pay again for my fans to see my posts...
My organic reach was recently only about 1%, now it is less than 0.20%.

I hope their stock price crashes real soon

Yeah, you spend your time and money to build a Fan Page, only to have Facebook make more money of you. If it wasn't for Fan Pages the average FB user would have a lot less to share and talk about.

    Same here . I went from a reach of 8mil to 1 mil .
That results in less income .. sucks but then it's time to take another approach .

Think i found what is working and also have myself a new earning ( see sig ) .

Nevertheless , before they changed i gained every week 40k new likes, organic that is .. now 2k .. So big big change
