Social bookmarks do help your SEO. You should have social bookmarks as any real site would. If you do not have them it might look a little odd to Google if you have a lot of everything else.

I find Social bookmarking works well and you should definitely do some...

There are 1000's of bookmarking sites maybe choose a few of the top ones such as Reddit, Digg, Delicious and concentrate on these first.

Sometimes outsourcing this is the best way but depends on whether you have the resources for this.

Either way its going to help your pages get ranked in the search engines.

I would advise to be cautious with directories. there are plenty of them and most have low trust rank, so getting a link from such directories may hurt your website. So try to stick to quality, but not quantity, do it manually and use only trusted brands like delicious, scoop.it and similar sites.

I don't about others but social bookmarking sites like stumbleupon, facebook and pinterest helped me rank my sites on google and get free traffic
