Estimating Social Media Traffic

Hey. : )

Is there any way I can guess/predict/estimate how much traffic I will receive from Social Media (specifically Google+)?

(I'm a beginner.)

Thanks.

Webmaster tools will help you get actual metrics. However, to answer your question, to estimate potential traffic can be difficult.

Here's how I would do it. Industry averages say that you'll get from 0 to 10 percent of your traffic from social channels (and 10% is really high). Facebook is at the top and Google+ is at the bottom.

So let's estimate that you'll get 1% of your total traffic from Google+. Therefore, if you get 1000 total unique visitors per month, you can estimate that about 10 of those will be from Google+. Not much is it?!

    Hope that helps.

Yes I think ShoppingSignals has it right to just work the numbers.
So going the other way, If you have 1000 Google+ followers and make a post, you may get 10 people going to the website. Of course depending on your engagement level of your own followers that number can vastly differ.

My biggest advice is to treat your social media like communities. engage, talk, respond and be a 'host' of your party. this way people like what you have to say, are a real person and not just selling all the time, and will click on your links more often.

Pretty difficult to predict considering how you utilize said social media will go a long in determining its effectiveness. Like party favor mentioned, creating real engagement can go a long way in increasing how much success you'll have with SM.

Google + is tricky because there hasn't been a huge turnover from FB users to G+ like I think Google were hoping for when it was first launched.

I think this may be possible using a tool in webmaster. Or you can use Google analytics to keep abreast of where your visits are coming from.

      Thanks everyone. : )

I'm working on a business plan at the moment and I have to factor in how much traffic I can expect from Google+ (and then Facebook and Twitter).

Would you say, as a "beginner" I can reasonably expect something like 100 visits to my website from Social Media traffic? Or, maybe something similar?

      What would be your "estimate?"

      Update:

While searching Google I found the following statistic:

"Companies that have 1,000 Facebook likes receive around 1,400 webpage views per day"-

The 12 Social Media Marketing Stats of 2013 | Search Engine People Blog

Using that as something of a guide, my traffic estimations from using Facebook would be:

      [Month 1]
      100 Facebook Likes=140(Visitors)/Day

      [Month 3]
      1000 Facebook Likes=1400(Visitors)/Day

In your experience/opinion, would you say those projections are "doable"/realistic?
