I've hit a brick wall with Pinterest

Long time lurker, been that way since I was 15 years old. I'm now 21 and trying to build a brand through Pinterest.

Everything has been going very well. In the last two months since I started all of this, I have hit 1,700 active followers, started a website, Facebook page, and I am a part of 12 group boards on Pinterest.

My niche revolves around Marijuana and the cultural impact it has had on all of us as a global society. I do this by sharing and pinning things that I know will draw attention and make a user want to repin.

My website has been doing well, almost at 100 unique visitors a day. Not a whole lot but the website is less than one week old.

I'm completely stuck though.

I have really no idea where to go from here. Not sure how to branch out into other social media mediums, as well as finding and promoting products that might bring in some extra revenue for me.

Any suggestions on what I should go about doing next?

I'm well aware. I was actually considering Amazon affiliates, just really dislike how low the commission percent is for affiliates.

There are so many marijuana implement related websites online that will allow you to affiliate and sell their products. I'm not sure if Amazon has anything related to marijuana. But these other sites can be found by doing a quick search on Google with your keywords+affiliate. As for where to go from here, branch out with your own marijuana related Facebook page. There are many already there with the same theme, so find a way to say things that no one else is. Hope those ideas help.

I would start scaling up your social media accounts and automate the process. This will leave time to work on SEO and content for your website, while still getting traffic.

What social media websites would you recommend scaling up? I feel as if Twitter might be my next big conquest.

If you're doing well on Pinterest, Tumblr might be a good next step. The same images that work on Pinterest will probably work on Tumblr and a post there that goes viral can quickly hit tens of thousands, if not hundreds of thousands, of users.

Right on. My girlfriend uses Tumblr quite a bit so she would be able to help me out with it. I'll try cross promoting the two and see what happens.

I think Facebook offers a ton of opportunity. I'm not familiar with your niche, but it strikes me that it's a niche many people are passionate about so you can engage them and get traffic to your site.

That said some people may be hesitant to share such a topic, but then some people in your niche probably share a often.

    The Tumblr suggestion is good.

I would definitely look for some higher paying affiliate programs, but don't necessarily ignore Amazon.

I bet your niche is also excellent for building a list, so I would that as well.

I think you're making great progress. Just keep building every day and your traffic and revenue should grow.

No thanks. I'm going to stick to just one account for right now and build a reputable brand with an active following. Bots just seem a little too gray hat for my taste.

Amazon has clothing affiliated with marijuana products. It would be a good first step for me I believe to really get my foot in the door.

I haven't had much luck branching out to a Facebook fan page. Not many people seem interested in liking the page. It's a whole new playing field, and I'm not sure how to go about it.

      Thanks!

That's really the best part about this niche. So many people are passionate about it that it's very easy to engage my following and send traffic to my site. My traffic has been doubling every week, so the snowball effect is definitely in effect.

Most people are hesitant to share an interest in such a controversial topic, but the tides of change are churning rapidly, and everyday more and more people are following me and creating boards revolving around marijuana.

I'm sure you are right and have been considering mail chimp to create and build a list, although I'm on a very tight budget.

      Thanks so much!

Pinterest + Amazon is an awesome combination! As others have mentioned, conversion rates are very high because people trust Amazon. Also, people tend to buy a bunch of other items while they are there as well, so a $50 order could very easily turn into a $150 order.

Because of your niche (Marijuana), I doubt you could do adsense, and that would be my second recommendation.

One quick tip: While you have the user on your page, get their email address. That way you can market to them over and over as you grow your list. Pinterest traffic is pretty hot for opt-in lists.

I've been making money with Pinterest for a few months now, and it's awesome!
