get FB Likes, waste of time?

Seems like trying to get facebook likes is a waste of time. Am I wrong? From what I can gather, organic reach is terrible for facebook likes. In other words, I could work at getting lots of likes on my page, then post a new status, and hardly any of those people will even see it?

Not a waste of time, but FB have certainly made the game harder. Reach has been getting more and more limited because FB want page owners to whip out the credit card. There was a time that a 50K page would earn you an OK income. Nowadays, you earn less than those old 50Ks used to earn with even a 250K page. There's nothing wrong with encouraging page owners to stump up some cash, but this is the wrong way to do it.

In the past likes/fans were a lot more useful than they are today.

Facebook have openly admitted they are moving towards having your fans as nothing more than a custom audience of people you can pay to advertise to. Organic (free) reach will become almost non-existent.

But this was always going to happen.

Now I'm really lost. Could I not just advertise to them anyway, whether or not they have liked my page?

It is hard nowadays to post status in fanpage and get many views from our liker.
I've switching from collecting likes to collecting leads. ^_^

It's not a waste of time if in a social niche, but I wouldn't count on facebook reach as your sole source of traffic. Use organic reach as one traffic source.

As for getting fans, I prefer ads that are clicks directly to website which as a result people like my page.

Not a waste since everytime you post can be seen by those who like your page. But also depends if you acquired them naturally since you only want targeted people to see them. But the reach has been cut at least 80% from last few months.I have 6000 fans yet only 200-500 people see my posts.

Lets put it this way... getting organic FB likes/shares is a great thing.

That said most of the ways out there to increase your likes/shares by buying them usually leave you with a high number of accounts that are simply not active or are just spam. Even if you purchase them from FB directly and tell it to pick countries like the US, UK, etc. you end up with a high number of bad accounts.

The only way I would do it is via FB ad system. Even then I would do it in small chunks and track just how well it works to make sure you are getting people who are genuinely interested in your page and not just interested in "everything".

It is wasted when you don't understand what is, and what it is not for!

Let us not forget the very purpose of why people like a page ---> simply because they like it! Period!

What I'm trying to point out is that you should focus less on getting likes. Focus, instead, on engaging those that liked your page (the real people) and build your relationship with them.

What makes people like your page or your business?
What stuff are they commenting, liking, sharing on facebook?
What are the stuff you should be posting that are potentials to go viral?

Perhaps you should focus on this, rather than wasting your time and money buying likes and etc.

That is, and should be, what every marketer/online business/social media experts should be doing!

I hope this gets you into the right mindset.

    Cheers,

    Anthony

Facebook is evolving into a pay-to-play network and it's becoming very difficult for marketers who aren't willing to spend money to keep up with those who are willing to pay to advertise.

I buy likes to my pages from Facebook and usually end up paying a penny or two for most of my likes. Once I have 10K to 30K likes, I now have a group of people I can market to that nobody else can specifically target. I end up paying for fans and then have to pay to advertise to those fans whenever I want to promote a deal, but it doesn't really bother me to pay to play. As long as I'm making money, I'm more than happy to pay Facebook to advertise to fans of my pages.

I agree! rather than generating bot likes, advertising to get likes is much whiter strategy.

Facebook has gotten stricter, your page's posts wont be seen that often by readers. Anyway its still important to get facebook likes. It would be slow at first but its worth it afterwards
