I am fairly new to Twitter, I have 334 followers. I am still learning what is and isn't appropriate. How about this.

They generally don't care about the content of the tweet itself, but just don't repost it 100 times with just different hashtags or something. Should be fine.

As long as the rest of your twitter is filled with GOOD content (tweets), yes that is appropriate and people will be more compelled to click your link. As entrepreneurdude said, if you spam it, not only will tweeters not click it, but you will lose followers quickly as well.

If you are going to promote something you might as well advertise it. Then again to increase clicks to website which is tremendously better and could result in more followers you had might as well just try out Twitter ads if you have the budget.

Note that even your followers may never see a single post of yours even with #hashtags. #hashtags can be detrimental to promotional posts/ads as they draw unnecessary clicks.

Twitter can get pretty expensive when it comes to advertising yet if its part of your traffic strategy then you'll want to at least try it out for awhile.
