Facebook page vs. group ?

I am thinking of creating a facebook group for my business . I have a page with 10K followers , but organic reach is almost null (200 views max). I see groups are more active and reach is much better than pages.

What do u guys think ? Should I start directing blog visitors to my group instead of FB page?

It's much harder to build a engaged group than a page. But the reach in a group could be as high as 30%.

I personally believe that leverage your personal profile is the best way to do Facebook marketing.

More people see your status updates.
You can post pictures of your lifestyle and those usually get TONS of engagement.
You can create photo albums for testimonials and every time you upload a new testimonial, it gets put in your newsfeed for others to see.

Personal profile is the best way to brand yourself and get the most exposure.

I just use fan page for social proof and link back to my blog and squeeze page.

Personally I try to engage with both Facebook page and group. I this is better way to get traffic from Facebook because using only page or group is not enough when you need huge traffic.

A page is more for posting info. You definitely want a group because it allows you to interact with customers. If I had to choose one over the other, I would choose group everytime.

On the whole, you get what you pay for.

I agree wholeheartedly with what Ghoster said; use a group!

If you want to interact directly with your customers, and make them feel more important, groups are definitely the way to go!

  • Fan page is good when you've got a great following and groups are good if you got your own group with thousands of members and you can pin your post at the top.

Having a group makes it possible for people discussing things that are related to what you have on your page and blog, and building a relationship with the people following you.
So having both is a good idea and linking group and page together, without spamming the group with loads of adverticing. If you want to sell things either do it on your page or blog, or have others paying for putting banners of a size of your choice on your blog or page.

It is true that reach of group is higher than page. But it is so tough you get huge number of group member, Which is quite easy for page. Although you can try with a group. When you are running a group, you need to keep engage the group members. Otherwise you won't be able to get success.

for my own point of view, having a group and page in Facebook make you to a point of advantages. both are advantageous. My point is, having a group and a page at the same time is something good and we need to ponder to it. Make it personal, and deliver the message right for both. But take a look at the following:

    Note:
*** Pages provide you with analytics on number of likes, shares, etc. Groups provide no analytics.
***When you post to the Group, you post as yourself. You can’t “become” the Group like you can with a Page.
***Group is more sustainable than pages
*** Facebook Pages will show up in Google searches. Facebook Groups will not show up in Google searches

    Hope i helped

There are advantages to both. Fan Pages are controlled more closely and can produce some extraordinary results. A Group can be spammed a lot more and can potentially annoy the other members.

If you are looking to monetize your efforts then know both can be super helpful but the potential can be super although some of the setbacks with spamming can be somewhat difficult.

    Good Luck

There are some great answers in this thread. I have always been of the belief that a facebook page is better than groups, because they allow for more interaction, though I did notice someone posted a good benefit of groups, which I hadn't thought of before.

However, it depends on what you are promoting on facebook, because their terms and conditions specifically bar any money makinng opportunities and especially if you are doing so via your personal profile. Doing so via a fanpage is ok.I personally use a fanpage and promote only marketing material.

I have used groups before, not my own it has to be said, and I usually promote my blog in them.I suppose it boils down to testing to see what works best

A lot of groups though are CRAP. Especially if it has anything to do with marketing. They end up being link spam groups with no value. Plus, you can't use paid advertising with a group should you ever get to the point where you'd like to do that.
