I am very fan of Twitter. That's why i learn lots of tips from different expert. Currently i am doing good on OK with their tips and my own made Twitter promotion tool.

Today i found a blog post where all tips are available. Here is short list with example-

1. Use Short, Provocative Tweets

2. Include an Intriguing Quote from Post

3. Include Statistics

4. Use #Hashtags

5. Use @mentions

6. Retweet Mentioned Blog Content

7. Ask for a Retweet (or RT)

8. Use Visually Appealing Images

9. Ask a Question Related to Your Topic

10. Tweet about Your Blog-Hosted Contest

11. Promote Your Tweets

12. Include a Blog Link in Your Bio

If you are doing all positive waork and always active on your website, then you will definitely fget real hits by your followers and visitors.

Also, follow the accounts of leaders in your niche and be active on their TL with replies and retweets. That makes you visible to their many followers, who may then follow you. Don't forget useful content!
