How Do You Feel About Removing Sigs. In The Entire WSO forum?

I don't know how many of you use the WSO sub-forums like classifieds. I Have been using them for a while (mostly classifieds) and I'm getting tired of spamers dropping their links in my (and everyone else's) paid threads.

Yes support will remove them but I think it should be stopped.

I want to get the group's thoughts before I suggest it, or not.

Here's a shot I just took. Notice how this spamer hits nearly every new ad. This "person" is one of the worst but there are others.

Removing sigs. completely would end this instantly.

Opinions please!

Thanks for reading.

Yep! Sig should be removed in the WSO section including all the sub forums...

Since they are "Paid" threads, it's NOT the place to do forum marketing to drop a link.

I am not a paid member of warrior forum and I have never used the WSO as a seller.

I completly agree with gluckspilz entirely. If it is a paid area of the forum that requires paiment to post a thread, then no one else but the client should advertise there. This include sig. Otherwise it is not fair and it is free advertising at the expense of the client (the one who paid the thread).

It is good business to remove the sig.

I agree. if the thread is paid for, don't allow sigs.

I think it would decrease posting too much. The signature gives incentive for people to post more. It may mean some people will post repeatedly with little value but I think those people can be easily spotted and removed.
As it is now people can help other people out with excellent posts while at the same time giving some value to their business by their link in their signature.

FYI - He did not say the main forum he is talking about the WSO forum. The Mods have enough to do around here. It sounds like a good idea in my opinion.

Lol. I looked at the thread headline for a good ten minutes thinking "seriously?"

But I get his reasons as to why.

Thats why the thanks data is the best metric on WF but is being totally under utilized. Post count says nothing but thanks is a whole lot harder to game.
I agree but the daily limit to "thanks" use sort of hurts that metric.

I don't see any reason a signature should be allowed in a thread a member has PAID to run. I think someone promoting in such a thread should LOSE his sig rights permanently - or at least for 6 months or a year - but that doesn't seem to happen recently.

Sigs have no business being in any paid thread just as there are no banner ads in the paid threads, they take away focus on a thread that has been paid for.

        Agreed.

We could probably discourage even more spam by suppressing sigs until a poster has, say, 50 posts (that haven't been deleted)

I agree, 50 posts sounds reasonable for someone who is really serious and spammers won't take the time, but the sig whore that Brent is speaking of has 700+ posts and has been a member since 2011.

I am with you on this one Brent, all sigs should be stripped out of PAID posts. Not the other posts of course
(be sure to get that clear).

I do not say that for my own benefit, but many times when I read a very helpful post from someone else here on the forums then I naturally want to know more about the person who's post or comment I have read and a sig with more info is something I always look for.

I think in the general forums DEFINATELY NO!!!! Do not remove Sig links. It is part of networking and I have found many great products (both free and paid) as well as joined some great lists and found very helpful resources from sigs in the non-paid forums so Please if you suggest this be sure you specify that you are requesting removal of sigs in the PAID Posts Only.

I panicked when I read the subject line of this thread, no, do not remove this awesome networking resource from the general posts.

I believe it is good business ethics to remove them from the paid posts. After all when you order a solo ad your link is the only one in the ad for the sole purpose of your getting the best response rate, which is exactly the reason solos are so effective. Definitely the right thing to do.

You've got my vote if the Mods are asking!

    I agree with Brent.
    But if this goes through,
one day paid WF members might reasonably request that they don't see any ads when logged in.
That can be a bigger headache.

I think you should suggest it. I agree with you, anyway. And a "suggestion" is "only a suggestion".

You're referring (with your example) to one specific instance, but I know it's a lot more common than just the example you provide.

I don't see why people's signatures should be in other people's paid threads at all, really. Not just WSO's - any paid threads.

From my viewpoint, if sigs are removed they'd just blatantly put whatever links they have on their posts/replies. It is true that people want to promote something on their sigs, though they should do so discreetly. If one wants to click and interested in your link, then that's it.

For the sake of conversation and knowledge sharing on the other sections let it be. But in the WSO section, this is a different case so this needs deliberation.

If they do that in a paid thread, just ban them for a while. And delete their most recent 25 posts for added emphasis.

I agree that sigs should be turned off in the other paid ad areas, just as they were in the WSO section.

Just as an aside, Thomas is the one who turned them off in the WSO section. If memory serves, it was either Bill Platt (tpw) or WillR who suggested that.

And it seems to have been made for me by the mods moving this thread. Works for me.

It seems like we all pretty much agree...so hopefully soon!

I think this is a great idea ... just another observation that's closely related ... I see in the main warrior special offer section signatures are turned off including for the owner of the WSO ... Many people use their signatures to advertise to more than 1 product or WSO ... I feel in a way the person starting a paid thread loses a lot of value not having their signatures in tear own thread ... so along with banning sigs of any other posters would it be helpful to allow the person paying for a thread to keep theirs ... is this a technical problem and maybe hard to implament ? Just my 2c thanks again Brent

On the thread Les linked Ken Strong had stated the sigs were turned off in all paid sections as per Allen but that's not the case right now:

Sigs have now been turned off for everyone in all paid sections, per Allen. People on both sides of the argument made good points, but personally I think this is probably the better solution. It wipes away the problem immediately, and I think that far outweighs the alternatives.
