Make April Report a Post Month

Lately the spammers have been running wild on the forum, as well as the newbies trying to up their post count as well as the signature whores. There has been a rash of people posting to very old threads some going back to 2009 and earlier. Also many posts in the wrong sub forum. We can also talk about the same question asked hundreds of times such as. "What is the best Hosting" or "I have $XX.00 to invest what should I do". And lets not forget the affiliate links being blasted everywhere.

Before Freelancer took over the Mods had a very proactive approach to these issues, now it is very reactive and in most, if not all cases, these issues are only addressed when the posts are reported. And sometimes, even then, it can be a long time before they are resolved.

So, I think in April we should start reporting the heck out of these posts, as well as posting in the thread, "Post Reported" Maybe if they have over flowing email boxes with the same thing reported dozens of times and then the threads are loaded with "Post Reported" they might make the effort to be proactive and once again have a good forum.

Also, make sure when you report a post be specific, tell them what sub forum to move the post to, provide links when applicable.

I feel much better now

Thanks for listening

I like the intent. Personally I think it would lead to mods relying more on member reports than ever before... Unless reported, it goes unnoticed. I'm sure we don't see half of what else goes on, but seems we see a lot more than we used to. It's been almost 2 years now, seems moderation would've been resolved / 90% if it was a priority.

With the issue of bumping old threads, I'd be interested to hear what you think about archiving threads (making them read only after a period of time). Something http://whirlpool.net.au does, I think it works well on that site, but would expect more threads started with (even more) repetitious questions.

I would also like to see that. Although, I would rather see it go to moderation. some old threads are still worthwhile today. So, let the mods decide if it is worth it to keep alive or close the thread.

Missed this ---> but I have probably reported 75-100 posts today alone, the majority of my reports were link spam, wrong forum, not allowed, asked and answered, content theft, solicitation etc....I skipped reporting the obvious boatloads of bot spam...and I did see boatloads of that too.

This forum needs a full-time team of proactive mods that are IM and Forum savvy, that can stay on top of things ---> they don't have that now, and if folks like myself, Kay, and others stop reporting it's only gonna get worse.

The powers that be need to get a proactive mod team in here that is ready, willing, and able to attack the problems ---> without relying so much on guys like me reporting 75 threads on my daily visit, a visit where I was just trying to read some of the new posts on the forum.

WF needs to put together a solid team of mods that know how to get this crapfest under control. No offense intended, but mods that don't know any better and/or mods that sit around the lounge waiting for reports is not going to cut it.

    Cheers

I think issuing warnings as well as soft bans to repeat offenders is also a option. There are many here that use the main forum as a place to promote their signature. As we all know most of the sub-forums have low numbers of visitors. I continually report the same person time and time again for posting in the wrong forum. The mods should be contacting these offenders and letting them know.

Yeah I know what you mean. But I don't agree with archiving old threads. There is typically a reason why the discussion has still been going on. But if lets say no views or replies have happened in 30 days then yes lock the thread.

We are not talking about a discussion that is ongoing, we are talking about threads that are, and have been, dead for a while and someone bumps them for the sole purpose of promoting a signature, or to increase their post count

...and then you say "lock threads after 30 days"....?

We're talking about locking threads that are YEARS old! Yesterday alone there were multiple threads from 2012 and 2014 - bumped for no good reason.

Threads should automatically go to "read only" after 12 months if not sooner.

The "reason" the discussions go on is they are being bumped by link spammers.
