Why do threads in the main board not getting moderated first

I find it interesting that on the main board you can have a post live once you submit , Yet on the Off topic and some other areas you have to wait to be checked by a Mod
Now I do remember that we were informed that all post on the main board do get checked but seems not to be the case
Or as you say maybe an over-site!
Would also explain as to why there has been an influx of non marketing threads of late on the main board
