newbies posting links

When someone signs up for the WF.. IE gets a username and password.. could we ( meaning YOU the admins ) maybe drop a warning specifically about dropping links in posts, instead oh don't forget to read the rules?

Instead of being re-active to removing them, maybe being a bit more proactive to alleviate them?

My own suggestion is that members should have to acknowledge they've read the rules....before they can post at all. The rules are in place - but newbies don't bother to read them....or don't think the rules are 'serious'.

#8 - shameless self-promotion such as 'see my sig', "PM me for more details", or 'check out my blog' is prohibited. Posts with links to personal site or promotional pages will be decimated.

#9 - Promotion of any kind, including subtle, isn't allowed in the discussion areas.

#12- Self-promotional links (blogs, personal websites, et al) are not allowed in the discussion areas of the forum. Mods reserve the right to delete the post and/or ban members from the forum.

Bots don't read rules and many of the link droppers are bots. But I agree the onboarding process could stand for some improvements.

Today is a good example of the 'newbie quality' we face some days. I have terminated about 2 dozen new members - all posting the same spam affiliate links. New program - one of those saying 'post your affiliate link everywhere'....so they do.

I don't give these people warnings or explanations - just decimate the accts. If they want a second chance, they'll have to start over - maybe next time they will read the rules before spamming.... but I doubt it. Many are probably bots anyway.
