When will we get replies?

We know that the forum has been bought by Freelancer.
We know lots of changes have been made.
We know there are teething problems.

BUT why don't the admins/moderators respond to the threads asking about why certain things are happening?

Examples:

1. Having to log in every time because it doesn't retain log in details.
2. Icons have disappeared when they were very helpful.
3. Emails when your WSO has fallen off page 1, page 2, etc.
4. The HUGE problem with spam...It would be great if you would go back to charging even $1 per new member which would greatly reduce the spam.
5. Try to reduce the time between reporting spam messages. I know many members who give up reporting because of the delay.

I can't think of other points right now but PLEASE... can Alastair or somebody else with the right knowledge... reply to each of these points and actually address the issues so all members can know what is going on.

Lots of members are either reducing their time or leaving the forum completely because of all these problems.

We DO appreciate the fact that it may take time to fix things but how about at least letting us know what is being done????

The last thing you need is to lose long-term valued members.

  • Hi Laurence,

I'll address all the issues you have brought up and consolidated in this thread.

    1) This shouldn't be the case. I've done some tests and the "remember me" functionality is working fine. Make sure you guys have your cookies enabled. Let me know if you guys still experience this and we'll dig deeper.

    2) I replied to this issue in the other thread about the icons. I'm trying to clearly understand the previous behaviour of these icons. We'll be able to make sure they work properly once I get this clear.

    3) We have identified the frequency issue with this. We have resolved it and you should only receive one PM reminder each time. You can also disable this message in your "User Control Panel" by unticking "Receive Email from Administrators".

    4) We're currently working on a better way to prevent spam, identify spam and remove spam. I'm not keen on making new members pay as I want to keep the forums in general open to anyone who genuinely want to contribute to discussions, ask questions or engage with other users.

    5) I believe this is set to 1 minute. I'll look into this now and see if I can reduce it.

    • Just so you know, when the delay was removed before it also meant spammers didn't have to wait between posts. Unless you can set the delay for reporting posts separately from the delay for posting, you might not want to change it until you get a handle on the spam onslaught.

    • Hi Alaister,

I suggest adding a captcha to the confirmation page. For example, when a new member registers, they are sent an email with a link they need to click to confirm their registration. After they click this link in the email, they are taken to a confirmation page. This is the page that needs a captcha.

Most spam tools have auto-captcha features as well as auto confirm features, which automatically open the confirmation emails and click on the confirm links. However, these programs are not set up to actually follow the confirmation links, then enter a capture on the confirmation page.

Having a captcha on the registration page really does nothing, as the spam programs have the captcha filling feature and services set up to deal with these. The captchas need to be on the confirmation page, at least until the spam programmers figure out what's happening.

You now have an icon with a star on it that shows if you have participated in a thread. When the thread is "hot", that disappears and is just replaced with the "hot thread" icon with the flame on it, with no indication that you have participated in the thread, which isn't very helpful in finding our threads, both commercial and non-commercial, since all of my commercial threads are hot and most of the conversations I have in others are also hot. It is an essential icon for any forum.

  • I thought this would be about getting notifications of replies. On another forum I am on, when someone quotes my posts or mentions me- I get a notification that the reply has been made. The notification not emailed to me- I see it right on the screen when I login.

    It's a nice feature.
  • Alaister,

You might want to pop into this thread:

    http://www.warriorforum.com/off-topi...-spamfest.html

...and let folks know you guys are working on the spam issue. Many of the members commenting are long-time members who help out in many ways. A word from you would probably be helpful in easing their concerns.

    • Laurence,

I have not had any trouble with my login being "remembered" for the past couple of weeks at least.

Let me recommend that you double check on your end.

  • Regarding the spam issue, there have been a few times when I've tried to report and been given a message that I don't have permission to access that feature. Kind of funny. Hasn't come up in the past couple days, though. Anyone else have that experience?

When that happens Jason, it's already been deleted before (probably seconds before) you reported it. It's already gone.

Regarding the spam issue, whether you got your mods trained or software in place, it's a big improvement so far. Much less of the bot stuff.
