X Posts Before Signature

So,

I feel there has been an increase in the number of new posters using WF simply for the signature backlink.

They often post inanities and as the mods don't have an endless well of time, it might be useful to restrict signature promotion until a poster has made a certain number of posts, as on many forums.

    That could have the opposite effect from the intent. It's possible people would just post more inanities faster so they can reach the necessary post count to have a signature.

    Only one way to find out if it would work or not, I suppose.

      That's traditionally been the result of any such limitation. It's worth testing, as you say, but if the past is any indicator, it won't have the desired result.

      When you had to have 50 posts to use the PM feature, the spammers ran amok. One in particular would hire a VA and run up the numbers on multiple accounts at once. Then, as soon as they hit 50 posts, they'd start PM spamming world+dog.

      Same when you had to have 50 posts to run a WSO.

      But, situations change. With as many mods as there are now, this might not be an unworkable solution.
