I hope this request is appropriate on WF. I operate a new e-commerce website sellling customised home goods we make. Not drop ship or similar. Our products are not available on any other website. We operated a website for a couple of years purely as online advertising. In Feb 2012 we reworked the site completely introducing e-commerce for first time. The domain name remained the same but most page urls changed. After Feb rework we rapidly re-climbed google's organic listings. Prior to Feb rework we were easily mid-page 1 for a long time without a huge SEO effort. By March 2012 we were regularly & stably in top 3 for our main keyword. On April 22 we were suddenly hit by Penguin. Initially we instantly disappeared completely and in subsequent weeks have oscillated between position 18 & 60 in organic listings. In contrast we are still ranked consistently #1 in Bing/Yahoo Our web designer has made some suggestions to remedy situation but I'm not 100% convinced they are best idea (or indeed best investment). I have tested our site extensively for user experience, W3C, keyword, metadata, etc etc. I contacted Google who say we have not had a deliberate "slap". In recent weeks I've worked on on-page SEO to see if it helped, but to no obvious effect. As far as I can tell we have been penalised as part of the Penguin algorithm changes, but I cannot be sure why. Before I commit to major work on/off site (which might not work!), I'd welcome a 2nd/3rd opinion. I'd welcome well thought out suggestions for on site and off site changes that we should make to restore our top 5 organic listing. Willing to reward appropriately. Thanks |

To the OP. Be very careful with that term: "SEO expert". Because there are now thousands, up on thousands of websites out there that have been punished by Google on the advice of a so-called 'SEO expert"...
